Aug 17, 2010 11:07 PM in response to ranger1967by highdef,I had the same problem, doing a full restore, then restoring from my latest backup fixed the problem. I would rename your iphone in itunes to the calendar date with your name, that way it is easy to see in your backups. Do a sync, then a backup with the new name, then a full restore, then a restore from backup. make sure your new iphone name with your name shows up in the recent backups tab when clicking option right click on the iphone, that way you know for sure all your stuff is backed up.
Fixed all of my slow processing problems on my iphone 3g after updating from 3.0 to 4.02. see my thread about disabled wifi problems on iphone 3g with os 4.02
My iphone 3g with os 4.02 works perfect. -
Aug 18, 2010 12:42 AM in response to highdefby boglott,@highdef: When did you do that restore? My experience is this: After a restore from backup or a restore as new phone (doesn't matter; the effect is the same for me) iOS4 runs significantly faster. For about 4-6 days. Then it starts to become sluggish again. So that's no real solution for me, unless I'd do it every 4 days again. -
Aug 18, 2010 12:49 AM in response to boglottby highdef,After I performed the update my iphone 3g came to a crawl performance wise.
Then I decided to do the backup, then a restore of the software and the firmware to os4.02 from my itunes. After the full blown restore, (wiping the device and starting over from my latest backup, the phone performs even faster than before. -
Aug 18, 2010 12:54 AM in response to sphonemusby highdef,Try reading my thread on slow iphone 3g with os 4.02 update.
The phone is ok, just do a restore and dont rush it. -
Aug 18, 2010 12:54 AM in response to highdefby andrevalente,The number of users that are using the forums for the first time just to complain about the 3G+iOS4 (like myself) is unbelievable!
Should mean something for Apple... -
Aug 18, 2010 1:02 AM in response to andrevalenteby highdef,Apple had to do something about 3g, and the only solution was to ruffle the feathers of all of the iphone users who hog up 3g service when they can be using wifi instead. I think it was a smart idea of Apple to make the network changes in the software, it makes sense and it frees up bandwidth on ATT's failing network. -
Aug 18, 2010 1:15 AM in response to highdefby boglott,If you did your restore from your latest backup just recently, I wish you all the best, but I guess your iPhone will not stay fast but start becoming slow again in a few days. That's what I experienced during numerous tries during the last weeks and lots of other people report in these forum here.
Making a new backup and restoring from exactly this new backup will bring you some more fast days and so on. So you will not lose any data, but about two hours every few days for the whole restore procedure. -

Aug 18, 2010 9:59 AM in response to Xplorer77by mountainmystic,Apple please read all 77 pages of this thread. I LOVED my 3G. I have had it for just about a year. ATT requires a two year period between handset replacement to recieve a fair market price. I now am stuck with a phone that i can barely use for the next year. Please help us get our loved iphones back into working order.

Aug 18, 2010 10:18 AM in response to highdefby highdef,Well here is my day one report:
A full restore as a new phone and restoration
Of my backup seems to have worked. I now have reliable wifi and the phone responds when I touch the touch screen. Before the restore the phone was basically a $399 paperweight, now the phone works well. The wifi seems faster and pages load superfast. By making the necessary changes to the network settings, my wifi works great
. So far the phone is working fine -
Aug 18, 2010 10:54 AM in response to highdefby cliff,Glad the restore is working for you. I've done 4 of them and 3 didn't make any difference. Even restoring as a new phone. The last one finally worked because I restored to 3.1.3. Now the phone works fine! -
Aug 18, 2010 10:58 AM in response to exq0867by wahmei,I'm having the same issues... Very aggravating!
I did restore my phone & have not had any change. Any other suggestions are MUCH appreciated! -
Aug 18, 2010 11:18 AM in response to wahmeiby Clifftheif,I am having the same issues and i have tried everything except downgrading to 3.1.3. So iOS4 clearly doesn't work on the 3G. I had to sign a 3 year contract to get this phone so i believe that it is ******** that this is not considered a big issue by apple. This treatment is unfair and I expect this to be fixed by apple, not me. It should be just as urgent as the iphone 4 signal issue as far as continuing customer loyalty is concerned.

Aug 18, 2010 11:17 AM in response to Xplorer77by WaKaMoleee,iOS 4 has really messed up my 3G, no easy way to roll back. Thanks Apple for jacking up my phone!
