Aug 18, 2010 11:20 AM in response to Xplorer77by Anatolian70,So the first and last time I had a discussions post was after I purchased my iPhone 3G and it wouldn't maintain a 3G connection. Apple was surprisingly silent then too...
I too have the slow-ness created by the iOS4 update. I went to the Apple store and one of the "Specialists" told me to backup then restore my phone. I asked her if anyone had successfully done it and here reply was "well, I told a few people about it but they never called me back." I told her I would try it and call her back. It didn't work, not even for 4 days. I called the "specialist" back and her response was "hmmm, ok."
Needless to say I am as frustrated as the rest of you. My phone was a dream until July 2010. In my opinion any solution by Apple should include public acknowledgement of the problem, an apology to all 3G owners/users and an option to upgrade at a substantial discount. -

I found a good documented vid of the the 3g OS4 problem.

Aug 18, 2010 12:56 PM in response to Xplorer77by alan-s2,I've had my 3G for two years and it's been great. Now that I've updated to ios4 it's the worst phone I've owned.
This is really unacceptable. I can't set up appointments while on my phone because it freezes for a couple of minutes. Can't read my emails unless I let it "think" as it's doing something else.
Wait a minute...it's acting like my Windows PC did before I switched to Mac.
Sheesh...come on Apple. Get a move on! -
Aug 18, 2010 1:24 PM in response to alan-s2by highdef,My phone did the same thing after an update.
Seriously. Try restoring as a new iPhone and then restoring from your backup. It worked for me. My iPhone 3G with os4.02 works great, so should yours. -

Add me to the list. I have patiently waited for any sign that these problems would be addressed, but clearly, now more than ever, Apple does not care about their customers. All they care about is forcing us to upgrade to the 4. That is all this OS upgrade is.
Apple has become the evil empire that was portrayed in their famous 1984 commercial. Way to go Apple.

Ah, I can see it now, John 'Microsoft' Hodgman 'dragged-up' in blonde wig, running vest and shorts… running through the centre of the audience…. swirling a sledge hammer around and around and flinging it through the big-screen Keynote presentation where SJ is mid spiel announcing the release of iOS4.1.
Think Same.

Aug 18, 2010 4:59 PM in response to Xplorer77by kristacular,I'm really angry about this. My and my husband's 3Gs were FINE until we updated to IOS4. Now even simple things like opening the Settings menu have slowed to a C...R...A...W...L.
We caved and purchased iPhone 4Gs. Yes, I knew about the antenna problems. But, for some stupid reason, I didn't think it would be a big deal. WRONG! The iPhone 4s are going back to the Apple Store this weekend.
I have a choice between using a phone with a faulty antenna or a phone that is so slow that it borders on unusable. THANKS, APPLE! You just lost a customer. My contract with AT&T ends in December. I'll be switching to an Android-based phone. -

I agree with you. I finally restored my 3G as a NEW PHONE and it has been working great with 4.0.2. I wish I had done it sooner. -
Aug 18, 2010 6:24 PM in response to Carol Gby stegs,I'll give rebuilding from scratch a go. I hope it lasts.
I wonder if apple have taken on a quality control manager form Toyota? Two serious quality stuff ups in a couple of months! 3G performance and Iphone 4 signal! -
Aug 18, 2010 7:44 PM in response to Xplorer77by Lahelu,Dear Apple
I used to love my iPhone 3G. It was sleek, it worked. Then you provided me with an update to IOS4. Now my phone is unbelievably slow, constantly hangs up on application openings, and suddenly is missing calls that go straight to voicemail even with 5 bars and the phone sitting in front of me. Please let me have my old iPhone back. I miss it. I want to throw this one out the window... -

How about filming your Iphone or giving some timings from your supposedly corrected Iphone in order to give credibility to your claims.
I would say that your claims are overstated to say the least!!! yes a restore will help for a while it clears you phones memory. IOS4 in its present incarnation is simply too heavy for the processor and Ram and no amount of restoring will help that. -

So...your 3G iPhone is working perfectly now under ios4.02... Highdef ..... or should I say... (reaches across and yanks off rubber mask in true Scooby Doo style) ... +'Mr. Jobs'+... DA-DA-DAAAAAN! -

Aug 19, 2010 1:34 AM in response to Xplorer77by straycatcn,This is the most embarrassing moment I've had since I became a Mac-addict 15 years ago.
I experience exactly the same problems as all those other thousands of 3G users after the upgrade.
I've restored the phone back to "factory" default - that took 4 (four!!) hours, but no improvements.
My friends are laughing at me now, as finally they see a "Microsoft" type problem creeping into Apple.
Apple... PLEASE... PLEASE... PLEASE acknowledge there's a problem!
(I've sent a feedback to Apple, as many others did... but only have deafening silence...)
