Aug 19, 2010 2:34 PM in response to n3ntoby highdef,In order to get the same performance from a 3g running os4.02, you should prolly dump all of those " downloaded photos and videos" from your phone so os 4.02 can work on a phone with limited memory. the iphone uses shared memory. Buy a new phone and stop complaining.

Aug 19, 2010 2:39 PM in response to Xplorer77by philter123,I also did not think this solution would work as I have done this twice in the past. I am now back on 3.1.3. All is working perfecly again. Will never update phone again. Apple, lovely way to treat your customers -
Aug 19, 2010 2:40 PM in response to cliffby n3nto,Agree Cliff
I noticed an ever so slight improvement when I did the first restore ages ago but I still have to turn off spotlight, notifications, location services etc for it to usable. Its so laggy that it is not functional for work any longer, too stressful for me.
The 3G I downgraded is light years ahead.
We need IOS4.1 (light) adapted for our phones fast. -
Aug 19, 2010 2:42 PM in response to Xplorer77by highdef,There is nothing wrong with the iphone 3g running os 4.02, absolutely nothing.
Apple banks on people who dont know how to use their devices, they just sell them new ones , and those Apple customers always fall into the trap, buying when they dont have to. Now you have an outdated phone. -
Aug 19, 2010 2:44 PM in response to highdefby n3nto,True colors!
The phone is near empty so I dont know what you want me to throw away...maybe the phone itself would have a been a better suggestion!
I still have some faith that Apple will make good with its customers. -
Aug 19, 2010 2:45 PM in response to n3ntoby highdef,I could not agree with you more.
I cannot explain why my phone works fine with os 4.02, it just does.
And I kn ow how fast it should be, I have 4 apple computers and have spent countless thousands on their technology.
Wouldn't apple love to see my configuration and pick my brain on how I got it to work, but they don't care about little ole me, they just want to sell new iphones. -
Aug 19, 2010 2:47 PM in response to n3ntoby highdef,My iphone 3g works fine with os 4.02.
maybe you dropped your iphone 3g too many time, thoughts? -
Aug 19, 2010 2:50 PM in response to n3ntoby highdef,Send me a link to post my video and you too can see how My iphone 3g with os 4.02 works perfect. -

I don't think you should assume everyone is doing something wrong and you're the only one right.

Aug 19, 2010 3:06 PM in response to highdefby n3nto,Never dropped it is the answer.
I would also suggest you do not attack people, who probably know more about the Iphone than you or I, and are simply posting about their experiences, looking for helpful information or simply helping others.
I do have 2 iphones 3G, have done everything that was suggested (in good faith) by other posters but my phone is laggy. It is much slower than the 3G I downgraded this afternoon and I can prove this. I also have faith that Apple are doing something about it although it is dwindling!
Anyway thank you for your suggestions, I followed your instructions, RESTORED AS A NEW PHONE but WITH NO IMPROVEMENT in speed or functionality. -
Aug 19, 2010 5:37 PM in response to Xplorer77by Lylepalooza,This thread just surpassed a quarter of a million views. I wonder if they are unique views. Certainly seems like there are many people interested out there. -
Aug 19, 2010 7:15 PM in response to Xplorer77by lexyperry349,My Iphone barely works after the update. I hope Apple is actively looking for a solution. I'm starting to look at other phone carriers since I need a phone that is more then a paperweight. -
Aug 19, 2010 8:02 PM in response to Xplorer77by TheBoz23,Thanks Apple! Own 2 ipods, 2 iphones (3G), a macbook! Just spent 3 hours of my life downgrading to 3.1.3. See if I purchase another apple product. Now I reverted back to 3.1.3, 1/2 my songs I bought are gone, and I had to re-install all my apps. The phone is back to its normal speed. 4.0 *****! Bogged mine and my wifes phones down like no other. At least I can use my phone again. **** poor quality and shame on YOU. -
Aug 19, 2010 10:40 PM in response to highdefby Mothy,Thanks for the play by play! This worked great. The only problem I had was that after the restore, iTunes automatically synced and created a new backup. This backup erased the one that I created with today's date. This caused me to lose all data but nothing that iTunes keeps, of course.
Much faster! -
Aug 19, 2010 11:07 PM in response to Xplorer77by Phantom52,I have an 8g 3g iphone downloaded with ios 4.01. Still runs slow. I know that the upgrade was also meant to show a realistic signal, but mine now does not get reception like it did. It will now drop out altogether and is unusable in areas where I could receive a signal before using ios3.1. I'm reluctant to upgrade to 4.02. apparently that stops you from being able to jailbreak. (mine isn't) C'mon apple please get this sorted.
