Aug 28, 2010 10:16 AM in response to Xplorer77by Sim88,Hi,
I'm so glad I'm not alone in suffering these problems!!!
My 3G is soooooooooooooo soooooooooooooooooooooooo soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo slow since I upgraded to iOS4. I have to wait a year to open and reply to texts, my apps like skyports and ifitness take so long to load I've stopped using them, and to top it off it off I can't answer calls most of the time because it keeps freezing!!!
Apple need to sort this out ASAP! It's all well & good releasing new models but forcing users of older models to suffer in this way in unacceptable. I will be complaining to BBC Watchdog if this issue isn't resolved soon.
If you can't fix it then provide an option to downgrade back to OS3.1.3... life was so good back then!!!
FIX IT APPLE!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Aug 28, 2010 11:17 AM in response to XPAby Christopher John Hunter, contempt or not, it's certainly inexplicable - that they released it, that they continued & continue to release it & encourage people to take it up, even today, and that they didn't & haven't stopped & apologised & offered a way back as soon as the situation became clear, not to say obvious ... it's bizarre, incredible, strange, and ... goodness knows ...
what chance a small protest group, with a badge or two, outside the venue in SF in a few day's time ?? -
Aug 28, 2010 11:21 AM in response to stegsby Christopher John Hunter,Every time I try to use my bogged down Iphone 3G my loyalty to the Aplle brand just slips and slips and slips ...
yep, know the feeling, 'though the sins of MS are far far greater ... -
Aug 28, 2010 12:41 PM in response to Xplorer77by ronniekatz,Since the 4.0 update, my 3G phone is so slow and borderline unusable. I have been to the Genius bar like 4 times. I did all the restores and backups and even a replacement phone. The software update is not compatible. This is such a shame that apple didn't know this. I wish I could go back to the 3.0 software but apparently that can't happen. This really *****. -
Aug 28, 2010 12:59 PM in response to ronniekatzby blkennedy,Hello:
Do a little research.
There are ways to go back. I did it last night and love my 3G iPhone again!
It is not that difficult, does not require a JB and worth it. You have to reset a few things here and there but it only took an hour or two. OS4 caused all kinds of problems on my 3G iPhone and yesterday was locking up, crashing and causing tremendous difficulty. I figured if I have to do a restore anyway....might as well go back to what I liked.
Now it is back to the way I remember. I never updated my wife's 3G phone to OS4 and won't unless this community is happy with a release.
Good luck -

Yeah but can you imagine how the Mac press would have roared about this happening if MS had done the same thing a few years ago? Now that there's a new boogeyman that they happen to feed off of, the issue is pretty much glossed over.
One pub comes out with the "supposed" email about a fix, and the rest repeat the same thing. It's not really reporting or asking questions, it's superficial redundancy. -
Aug 28, 2010 4:51 PM in response to cliffby Christopher John Hunter, not sure - from what we've seen they don't look much beyond their troughs, so cross-platform comparisons are rare ... anyway, my thought was only that moving away from iPhone might bring other problems - grass is seldom as green as it looks !
That said, though, this experience (iOS4 on 3G) has rather shaken our faith in Apple - next time we look to update our 'phones / laptops / desktops / servers / drives / etc / etc, we'll be looking more widely more seriously than we might have ...
'bet loads of other people will be doing the same, too !
Crazy, unbelievable ... grrrh !

Aug 28, 2010 5:16 PM in response to Alan A.by highdef,Ok, so Apple removed my fix.
I guess they don't want to "one upped".
If anyone wants the fix , email me.
My fix does not require a hack. iTunes doesn't
suspect anything is wrong , because I fixed it.
I can say Apple has written in an antihack on this one.
When I downloaded the ios3.1.3, the apple os
moved it to the trash.
Apple, you screwed up, so just fix it. -
Aug 28, 2010 6:56 PM in response to Xplorer77by chicaradiante,I find mine not only slow, but very sluggish in loading aps, and bringing up the keyboard when I need it. Worst of all are the missed calls when the slider or the green answer button decides not to respond when a call comes in. HELP! -
Aug 28, 2010 11:06 PM in response to Xplorer77by T_Bro54,I just wanted to go on record as having this upgrade issue with the iPhone 3G. The iOS4 upgrade has turned my 3G into a brick. Shame on Apple for doing absolutely nothing to resolve this issue. I will not get another iPhone nor would I recommend one to anyone else. -
Aug 29, 2010 1:02 AM in response to Xplorer77by sdkeys,Still very disappointed that Apple have not really resolved this issue. I have the latest upgrade for the so called improved OS but still useless. My handset freezes up and requires a hard reset at least once every day. I have stripped the phone of all unnecessary apps and data and have restored to factory without using a backup, manually adding everything again as if new out the box and the improvement lasts for only a day or so and then back to it! Please Apple, will you do more for your Iphone 3G customers before we opt out of the iPhone, not by choice but necessity as there are other handset manufacturers out there who seem to take such issues a little more seriously which is more important for a Business user than a pretty phone! -
Aug 29, 2010 2:45 AM in response to Xplorer77by n3nto,Just gave away one of my Iphones 3G with IOS4.0.2 to a niece of mine. (She has never had an Iphone).
When the person started using it the first question was..... "Is it always this SLOW, I though the Iphones were fast". I could see the disappointment on her face.
Funny how people that have never used an Iphone immediately notice how sluggish it is with IOS4. Just proves what we have been saying on this thread. -
Aug 29, 2010 6:00 AM in response to Xplorer77by smartson,Same problem here. os4 practically killed my iphone 3G! -
Aug 29, 2010 8:42 AM in response to Xplorer77by Bugfixer,They have deleted my post, just because I've... Ok I'won't tell, but let me say I'm surprised.
Anyway, I really hope Apple will fix this as soon as possible, I'm also surprised Apple did not test this OS with 3G iPhone. I made a lot of people buy Macs an iPhones, I just can't believe they've release an untested software. -
Aug 29, 2010 11:50 AM in response to n3ntoby hectate,I recently (8/26) upgraded from 4.01 to 4.02 and my phone has been running much better. Not stalling on bring up applications, or crashing back to the main menu when I ask it to. On the 4.01 I was having to restart my phone at least once every day and restore the phone about once every week or so. If 4.02 keeps working I will be far more likely when my contract comes up to get another iPhone but we will see.
