Aug 30, 2010 12:17 PM in response to Xplorer77by monkey2800,My phone is incredibly slow after the update. This is so frustrating. Don't they test these things before they release them. -
Aug 30, 2010 12:20 PM in response to Xplorer77by rstoppiello,Well, my contract is up on 8/7/10 and ive played with all the competitors, and honestly, theyve caught up. So, just to be clear, your costing yourself roughly 2 grand just in my money not fixing this.
Ill be buying 2 droids on verizon if there is no "holy crap did we screw up" announcement prior to my contract end date. Plus, I was going to get an iPad, now im waiting for the google model.
Is admitting a mistake so hard? Guess so. Just let 100k people continue to point it out. Good plan. -

I hate to be a broken record but I just don't think in the big scheme of sales related things we (100K) using "old" technology really matter when you consider the number of iPhone 4's they're going to sell in China and South Korea. -
Aug 30, 2010 2:06 PM in response to cliffby Christopher John Hunter, well, speaking for us, in our little part of the world, in our family, and friends, it has to be said, Apple have certainly lost some sales because of this - two iPhone 4s, an iMac, a Mac Pro, a couple of MacBooks, at least - perhaps rather more ... scaled-up, to allow for others like us, the total could be a lot more - ie: quite a lot, in the greater scheme of things ...
who knows ... ?

Aug 30, 2010 2:17 PM in response to cliffby rstoppiello,Probably true. But that annoys me even more. -
Aug 30, 2010 3:06 PM in response to rstoppielloby BenedictW,I complained on here a long while ago, when my 3G iPhone first ground to a half with 4.0.1. After a brief burst of (relative) speed when updated to 4.0.2, it slowed right down again, to an excruciating crawl.
After putting up with it for some weeks, in the hope that Apple would release an update that addressed this, I have given up all hope and have finally downgraded back to 3.1.3. It is fantastic! My phone now runs like a dream again.
I am so happy to have my phone back to how it was, and I am perfectly happy with the Apps I have. I was worried that any Apps I updated since upgrading to 4.x would no longer be backwards compatible with 3.x, but they all are so far.
Given that I'm happy with the restored functioning of my phone, and with the Apps that I have currently, I will not be accepting any more updates to my phone from Apple in future. I see no need to improve it, and from experience, I can only expect it to get worse.
Given that the same is more or less true for my MacBook (that it runs perfectly well and it satisfies all my needs) I don't see myself upgrading my computer either if Apple releases any future updates - my faith in them has been lost.
So, sorry Apple, but that's the last penny out of my that you'll see.
Thanks everyone for all the tips and advice - once again, the best advice I've had so far is to give up and downgrade back to 3.1.3. The extra features of iOS4 on the 3G simply aren't worth it - combined inbox, folders, and stupidly slow Spotlight - why so much pain for so little?
Cheers. -
Aug 30, 2010 3:10 PM in response to rstoppielloby Sval,I'm sad to say that I have had simular thoughts about getting an Android - sad because I have always used and loved Macs (still do) and I love my iPhone 3G ... well I did until Apple ruined it with that iOS4 update. Now it is slow, unresponsive and testing my nerves each time I'm TRYING to use it.
I like the new iPhone 4 and almost bought one but didn't ... I'm not about to spend alot of money on something that Apple can(will) ruin at any given time. I'm not saying that they did it deliberately but when they won't let us downgrade one does start to wonder.
I hope Apple solves the problem very very soon ... to me and many others Apple has always been about something more than just making money - let's hope we weren't wrong. -
Aug 30, 2010 3:28 PM in response to Xplorer77by highdef,Everyone with an iPhone 3g should downgrade
back to ios3.1.3 and apple should perform
this just to keep face with that solid customer base.
Otherwise they are throwing in th towel on America. -
Aug 30, 2010 3:39 PM in response to Xplorer77by highdef,The fix is on. I am posting this thread to tell everyone
that the fix is on, and apple does not approve.
The fix is out there , I downgraded my piece of crap ios4.02
back to 3.1.3 and apple even tried to twart that fix.
The fix is published on the Internet. Search iPhone 3gdowngrade.
It's out there, and it works, and apple is very unhappy.
The fact is there is not a darn thing they can do about it,
and they don't care.

Aug 30, 2010 4:23 PM in response to highdefby RestlessFool,What? You mean the fix is out there to let everyone be compromised by the pdf intrusion that will allow someone else to take control of (and hack) their iPhone 3G?
An intelligent person would adopt your recommendation (as opposed to Apple's to upgrade to iOS4.0.2) 'why', exactly? -

Why? Because given the choice between a phone that will work correctly or a broken one that "might" be bitten by an glitch that has no history of being exploited other than for jailbreaking isn't even close. -
Aug 30, 2010 4:44 PM in response to cliffby RestlessFool,Well, mine works correctly and is on iOS4.0.2, like those of many others known to me, and mine (like those of many other known to me) is not open to being hacked, either. I am not special in this, so what is it that others who have 'problems' have or haven't done that is different from me and others known to me? Same hardware, same software, different Apps maybe? Different diligence and caution in applying a process maybe? Who knows? -
Aug 30, 2010 5:24 PM in response to highdefby ic0nic,Apple removed my post as well, same thread series. Yep, you were spot on. I'm SO glad I was able to put all the pieces together throughout this forum.
Apple - SHAME! -
Aug 30, 2010 5:27 PM in response to RestlessFoolby ic0nic,How many people do you think open PDF's on iPhones that would even be concerned, at what's more, how many PDF's do you think are out there that are potentially malicious?
I am glad I downgraded - every app (once again )works flawlessly, no lags, skipping screens, memory loss, IOS4 is pathetic on anything less than a iPhone 4.
