Q: Iphone 3G slow after update to IOS4

The upgrade to IOS4 took forever but eventualy was completed succesfully.
But the iphone is very slow with IOS4. It doesn't work as smooth as it used to be. Also new applications such as the iBook application are very slow, doesn't respond smooth on screentaps etc. Who has the same experience?
I'm thinking about going back to version 3.1.3 because IOS4 doesn't add anything to improve the user experience on the iPhone 3G.

I hope Apple will listen to their iphone users and will release an update soon for iOS4 which improves the performance on older iPhones.

Please. The idea that some people know how to upgrade and others don't is nonsense. No one can explain why some phones are affected and others aren't, but it's not because a user clicked "OK" in an incorrect way.

My iPhone 3G will be the last Apple product I ever buy too. I got ripped off paying full price for it just before the 3GS came out and the iOS4 upgrade made the phone unusable so I had to downgrade back to iOS3. Just 6 more months and my contract is up so I can finally buy an Android and get Jobs' boot off my throat for good. Serenity now!

Not sure if you are open to it or if this has been mentioned already in the 90+ pages...

Try overclocking your 3G. Mine was super slow before, now, it is "comparable" to the old 3.1.3.

well after upgrading my iphone 3g using the restore method and having it slow my handset to a crawl i was extremely dubious about upgrading my girlfriends 3g. I did it, strictly following the instructions on how best to do it and avoid the performance hit that i have found with mine.

Guess what? The wifi died (would not connect to any network) and the phone slowed to a crawl. Great. 02 (our service provider) did not want to know without sending it off for 2 weeks to test it. No use to us. My girlfriend is a solicitor and needs her phone to be working. They wouldn't even provide an email capable temporary handset.

So.. we took it to the apple store where they checked it, confirmed that the wifi chip had died, and promptly replaced it. Nice one apple! They even recommended that we upgrade to ios4 because it wasn't that that caused the problem. Decided like fools to update it (with a restore!) and it has once again slowed to a crawl. Silly us.

Recently my iphone got damaged at work and i have just received a replacement. Its an upgrade to an iPhone 3GS!

Does the ios4 ruin iPhone 3GS like it does the 3G? Or should i stick to the 3.1.3. that it has shipped with? I heard the hardware in these is better that the 3G and they are not affected. Is this true?

ResrlessFool, knowing how well your 3G performs is so useful to us...

Now let the rest of us continue discussing real problems that need real solutions.

disagree - it was useful to hear some (more) are OK ...

from this forum, my impression has been that gradually everyone is being affected ... which may not be true !

My 3G suddenly crashed and rebooted today while browsing through my pop3 email. About 90 seconds with the apple logo on screen.
    Never happened before iOS4.

I have a 3GS. All it has on it is the standard apps it shipped with (so it's not exactly overloaded).
I "upgraded" to IOS4 and since then I have had serious problems. I have not valued any of the supposed improvements in IOS4. I've seen the phone slow to an unusable crawl; I've spent hours trawling forums in the hope of finding an answer; I've spent hours trying possible solutions. One seemed to help but my phone some but my phone has never been as fast or as reliable as it was before I "upgraded".

My advice would be to stay where you are - Don't risk it.

I have a iphone 3G, and after the update to OS4, it is useless, it has become very slow. I thought Apple was a more serious firm than this. Releasing an update that working like this is amazing!! Apple has become arrogant and dont take the customers serious. Its a good picture of the "elite" in U.S, who think they can just run over the consumers and do what they want (just to grab all the money they can).
This is what happened when "the american dream" came true (for a very few).
Looks like the moral in the companies are gone.
Never gonna buy an apple product again!

Well, I posted numerous more positive comments about my 3G after the Spotlight Search "fix". However, having lived with it for a month and then gone back to my 2nd-gen iPod Touch (same spec. as the iPhone 3G) to install some apps, I couldn't believe how much quicker it was despite also running iOS 4.

All I wanted was the same experience as my iPod Touch in a phone, which I have never had. Thanks a lot Apple, now where the ** is this supposedly wonderful iOS 4.1?

Saludos y suerte.

Thanks. I'll stick with 3.1.3. for now then.
