A bit too late..... -
Sep 8, 2010 5:32 PM in response to Xplorer77by ramblinrose,Just updated my sad, tired, disillusioned 3G to 4.1.
IT IS IMPROVED!
3G is eager to message friends again, willing to look at the calendar, even add an appointment. We went on Safari and came back without wounds.
what a relief. -
Sep 8, 2010 10:34 PM in response to Xplorer77by Optiblue,After reading the initial reviews, I was not expecting much. Having done the upgrade, it feels around the same if not a little better than what my 3.1.3 ran since now I disabled all that search crap that I didn't know would slow it down back then. It's been a long wait for this upgrade, but my phone works again. Hopefully it will continue to function after a few days! My friend with a 3GS reported faster speeds too. Nothing compared to how much I've improved though. -
Sep 9, 2010 12:33 AM in response to Xplorer77by NotGuilty, after downgrading to 3.1.3 long time before. now i am updating my iphone 3G to 4.1 directly from 3.1.3 seems like taking forever. it is hanging on "backing up iphone" its been 1 hour and still there.
i will keep you posted on how long it does take to update the phone from 3.1.3 to 4.1 -
Sep 9, 2010 12:46 AM in response to NotGuiltyby Sangoma,Have updated my 3G from 4.01 to 4.1. The "improvement" is absolutely minimal - some things are marginally better but SMS is still almost unuseable. I want to go back to 3.1.3 and I think Apple have completely crossed the line. They should have never have claimed IOS 4 was compatible with older iPhones and Im pretty sure it was an effort to force us to upgrade the hardware.
Which is why I won't. -
Sep 9, 2010 4:14 AM in response to Sangomaby NotGuilty, downloading took 15 min.
upgrading from 3.1.3 to 4.1
backing up, installing 4.1 and sync everything i had to my iPhone 3G took 3 hours.
i can confirm that it works as good as 3.1.3.
i still have internet Tethering on my factory unlocked iPhone 3G. great.
Apple fixed the problem.

Sep 9, 2010 4:23 AM in response to Xplorer77by Magnus Lewan,Some people still seem to have problems, while other people are happy with 4.1.
Could those who still have a problem try resetting the phone completely? That would probably (hopefully) fix it.
It should not be necessary, but considering that Apple left thousands of users with bricked phones for a few months, the solution they came up with may not work 100% well for 100% of all users. They must have felt the pressure to come out with something quick, and the solution turned out more complicated than they had hoped. -
Sep 9, 2010 7:05 AM in response to Magnus Lewanby pgirolam,So far 4.1 is working for me... Thanks Apple, would have been nice if you actually addressed the issue. -
Sep 9, 2010 10:32 AM in response to pgirolamby Kasaar,I think they did address it by providing a fix. This is all part of the high technology game we play, but I have to give apple a smidgen of credit for getting this fix out as quickly as they did. Indeed they kept silent as we posted our dissatisfaction , but how many companies actually resolve issues this quickly? Not many. My 3g is back in business and my proximity sensor on my 4 is much more stable. -
Sep 9, 2010 10:57 AM in response to Kasaarby Momemor,Bueno, bueno..
4.1 works much better on my 3G, I must say.
No more crashes, mail and sms back to normal now.
Apple should be more careful in the future before releasing ambitious upgrades. I would not say they fixed the problem particularly "quickly".
But they did it.
Good luck everyone -
Sep 9, 2010 11:30 AM in response to Jaap74by Jaap74,Just did a complete restart and it seems it solves a lot. Maybe I made my first conclusion too fast. Seems 4.1 fixes several issues. Only SMS is still really slow. -
Sep 9, 2010 11:49 AM in response to Xplorer77by Shazerina,I am really disappointed with the ios4 and what it has done to my iPhone. It's now a really slow and frustrating piece of junk that I have to lug around with me. Calls are dropping, everything takes up to a minute to respond. Apps crash. Typing is horrendously slow with a delay or lag. My husband's problems with the upgrade was worse: as well as all the slowness, it wiped all his pictures and contacts, and now the camera doesn't work.
I had been all set to upgrade to the iPhone 4... but not anymore. In fact, it has made me lose a lot of faith in apple.
And there's no sign of a fix... -
Sep 9, 2010 12:14 PM in response to Shazerinaby richardc1983,What are you on about?
If you do the new update by doing a restore so it does a fresh copy on your phone it fixes it, mine and majority of others are running a lot better now.
Its like installing vista straight over the top of windows 2000 it just wont do it! -
Sep 9, 2010 12:28 PM in response to Xplorer77by Peter DiSalvo,Updated my 3G this morning; had been using 4.0x for weeks now. After initial upgrade to 4.0x my iPhone was worthless. Then did a restore of 4.0x as suggested by others. I think others were correct that not all libraries updated with initial 4.0x upgrade and restoring forced all libraries to update becuase my 4.0x worked slightly better.
So far 4.1 seems good.
The problems I had with 4.0x included trying to launch an App and then having crash. Or clicking on camera and it taking long time to start. Have not seen this issue yet with 4.1 but I am wondering there really was fix for us low RAM 3G'ers or if I am seeign better performance due to freseh install. Will post back if I see any deterioration. -
Sep 9, 2010 12:32 PM in response to Peter DiSalvoby richardc1983,Im wondering should I have done fresh install of 4.1? I did one for 4.0.
What did you guys do?
