Q: Iphone 3G slow after update to IOS4

The upgrade to IOS4 took forever but eventualy was completed succesfully.
But the iphone is very slow with IOS4. It doesn't work as smooth as it used to be. Also new applications such as the iBook application are very slow, doesn't respond smooth on screentaps etc. Who has the same experience?
I'm thinking about going back to version 3.1.3 because IOS4 doesn't add anything to improve the user experience on the iPhone 3G.

I hope Apple will listen to their iphone users and will release an update soon for iOS4 which improves the performance on older iPhones.

i confirm that i have such behavior.
    here is the scenario:
open email (exchange) and read one email, when i hit on forward i receive that the email has picture of large size and asks me if i want to minimize it, when i chose to leave as it is. the phone locks itself.

after unlocking the phone and doing the same thing, it locks again. after trying this for several time the phone restarts automatically.

well i think i will go back to 3.1.3

My phone is running about %90 speed after upgrading to 4.1. Noticeably slower than 3.1.3 to switch between apps but def better than 4.0.

I have a very bad issue with this upgrade! Me and all my friends who have an iPhone 3G.
What I want to know is if everybody who say that It works perfectly are really sure about the model 3G (and not 3GS)? or if they use the phone hardly? or if they found a solution for the problem that I don't know?
and more the telephone seems to get worse day after day!!!

Powering down helps, every few days, say, we've found ...

Switching Spotlight options off (Settings ... ) then powering off, and on again, and selecting the Spotlight options on again, also helps (with iOS4.o.x, at least) ...

... so, when you find you can't answer a 'call, or surf, do one of the above, depending on how much time you have ... we've found it always remembers who called, anyway, so we can 'call them back (and spread the word) ...

Not updating to iOS4 helps even more, but that's probably not what you wanted to know ...

To totally remove the problem, stamp on the 'phone, or throw it in the sea ... ... no, don't do that !

We've one 3G still on 3.1.3, and the other on 4.0.2 ... and I've downloaded iOS4.1, but not installed it yet ... for the obvious reason that I'm not confident it isn't going to make the situation worse, in some way ...

I am so frustrated right now. I looked forward to 4.1 finally solving my slow calendar, text and other problems. It didn't.Feel like smashing this phone to pieces.

I just came to report what looks like hundreds of other are reporting. The extreme lack of quick response from my iPhone when it is loaded with the 4.0 + software... Everything is slow. Battery life is dramatically shorter, apps are slow to open and start, the phone will ring but will be delayed in bringing up the who is calling screen, apps will not start at all. Overall the reduction of speed is a major issue. The new 4.0.2 update has changed nothing. Quick at first, but 2 hours later my battery was @ half and programs were slow in responding.

I have restored my phone back to 3.1.2 and it performs as it did the day I get my first one. I see some are reporting that their phones are at 90% of what they were speed wise. For me and the amount of money I spent on iPhones over the last few years, this is just plain unacceptable. This phone is amazing and it is a great device, but the speed issue is unacceptable.

OK, suffered once too many times, had a glass of wine, and pushed the update button for 4.1 on my 'phone ... on the way to goodness-knows-where, and don't know what to expect ...

    but 'tis done ...

Remind me - what OS is installed now? 4.x or 3.13? If it's 4.x, and you upgrade to 4.1, hopefully you will will notice a bit of an improvement. For me, 4.1 helped a little bit. Unfortunately, no where near enough, but any improvement is always welcome. Keep us posted.

My 3G is still running great after loading iOS 4.1! I thought this load was going to solve the slowness issue for more people but there are still people posting that the new load didn't help.

we updated just the one that was on 4.0.2 to 4.1, leaving the one with 3.1.3 alone - so far, 4.1 seems quite fast, not smooth, a bit hesitant, but OK ...

I immediately updated to the 4.1 and my 3G seemed to be better; but now it's as bad as before upgrade. The screen stays black after call is disconnected and won't respond; locks up opening apps, very delayed when I try to open an app, safari, email, calendar, etc. I've wanted to throw it out the window numerous times. I hope you never need to make an emergency call....it might work, it might not!

IT'S rediculous that after over 1000 posts & 3 months this issue has not been resolved (not even an admission of a problem.)I think most people have put 3.1.3 back on & put 2 fingers up to apple.I won't buy another of their products & after I have told people how apple treat their customers, very few have wanted one of their products also.
you've shot yourself in the foot apple with your overpriced products & elitist outlook.
