Oct 2, 2010 6:47 PM in response to Xplorer77by Apple a day,iOS 4.1 did help for me, tho I think the slowness others might be having could be the amount of free ram
have people check for updates to the apps they have?
I have most of the storage space free on mine -
Oct 3, 2010 9:07 AM in response to Xplorer77by jpharper999,iPhone has gotten worse and worse... I have an appointment to work with someone from apple tomorrow morning but have run in to something now that I really can not ignore. Got home last night and ran in to what I consider a serious issue. My phone began experiencing issues with internet connectivity when connected to any wifi a week and a half ago. Thought it was my home network at first but all computers and my wife's iphone (running 3.1.3) connect and are lickity split fast on surfing the web. My phone showed connected but many would it drag (super slow) when opening a webpage. Proved not my network as it performs the same on any wifi. When I got home last night, I found it wont even connect to a wifi. Tried rebooting it, did not work. Tried hard shutdown and letting it sit. Still would not connect. I am begining to get seriously upset with these issues.I checked my router logs, and it does not even show the phone trying to establish a connection. I tried just about everything I can think of but no joy.
REALLY TICKING ME OFF
Over 3 Months of one thing after another
Here is hoping that the Apple person can get the blasted thing fixed tomorrow but my hopes are not that high.

Oct 6, 2010 1:39 PM in response to Apple a dayby blinking,I have a 3G which is running NO apps except those the phone came loaded with.
I have no photos, no videos, no music on the machine.
All I do is phone, text and, occasionally, check something on the internet.
it's 2 months since I "upgraded" to 4.0.1 and posted here reporting appalling slowness in even the simplest of tasks. Two months on and my phone actually appears to be getting worse!
I am deeply disappointed that Apple first issued an "update" which, quite clearly, crippled my phone and since then have done their best to prevent people reverting to an OS which, equally clearly, did and does work.
I want Apple to guide me into how to re-install the earlier OS. I don't want to have to go breaking the terms they have imposed and floundering around trying to figure out the 'how to' for myself. I did enough of that when I was with Microsoft. -
Oct 6, 2010 11:18 PM in response to blinkingby Bugfixer,You should update to 4.1; if you stay with 4.0.1 it's normal that you have some problems. -
Oct 6, 2010 11:41 PM in response to Bugfixerby blinking,Based on the experience of those who have updated to 4.1, I can see no basis for you stating that I should do the same.
Many people have posted saying that they have updated to 4.1 but they continue to have the same problems. I see no evidence for any confidence that updating to 4.1 will cure the problems.
However every person who has posted that they have gone back to 3.1.3 has reported that there problems have been solved.
It appears that 3.1.3 is a certain solution; 4.1 is rarely a solution. I cannot understand why you would recommend a solution which rarely works over one which is certain to work. -
Oct 7, 2010 12:11 AM in response to blinkingby Bugfixer,This happens because in this forum post (mostly) people that have problems. The majority after 4.1 had their phone back.
My suggestion is to try in any case, worse than 4.0.1 is not possible, I know because I had the same mileage as you. I did it and I'm happy again, but it's your choice. -
Oct 7, 2010 12:17 AM in response to Bugfixerby blinking,If you look back through this thread you will see that, "the majority after 4.1" did NOT "had their phone back" . The majority have reported that their problems have continued albeit marginally better than 4.0.1 but often on only a temporary basis.
You have said in other posts that English is not your first language so perhaps you're misreading what posters are saying. -
Oct 7, 2010 12:33 AM in response to blinkingby Bugfixer,What I meant to say is that normally who post in this thread do have problems and those who have solved don't. I've kept on eye on this thread to keep track of what was going on.
I did the jump to 4.1 due to the fact that 4.0.1 was too slow and buggy, and - as many others - I had all my issues fixed. The advantages (folders and Mail) overwhelm the little slowness you've between 3.1.3 and 4.1.
What I did is not a simple update, but a complete reinstall 4.1 from scratch. I did it and it worked. -
Oct 7, 2010 12:46 AM in response to Bugfixerby blinking,If you look back on this thread many people return to report what has not worked for them AND to report what HAS worked. Look at yourself - you are an example of exactly this!
Many people have tried 4.1 and come back to report that it did NOT work.
Many people have tried 3.1.3 and NOT ONE has come back to report that it did NOT work.
I cannot understand why you recommend 4.1 - which is uncertain to cure the problems - over 3.1.3 which is certain to -
Oct 7, 2010 12:50 AM in response to Bugfixerby Christopher John Hunter, well, we updated to 4.1 and it's OK ... we've left my wife's on 3.1.3, but may well take it to 4.1 sometime - 50/50 ... and I've no wish to take mine back to 3.1.3 - so, do it, update to 4.1, is my experience ...
to do it, we updated iTunes to latest version, then did a regular update to the iPhone (3G 8GB) from there ... -
Oct 7, 2010 12:55 AM in response to blinkingby Bugfixer,I updated due to folders and Mail, and I was ready to go back 3.1.3 if it didn't had worked.
You can go to 3.1.3 whenever you want, even after you've tried 4.1, so why not to try? Are you scared? -
Oct 7, 2010 3:15 AM in response to Bugfixerby blinking,Scared? Definitely! LOL If I try going back to 3.1.3 I will be out of my depth and I'm afraid of making a mistake and having no phone at all and not knowing what to do.
I want an end to the problems; I want certainty; and I want to spend as little time on this as possible.
That's why I want Apple to allow me to go back to 3.1.3 (instead of preventing it) and to hold my hand in doing it.
I'm scared that if I try 4.1 and it doesn't work it may be even more difficult for me to get back to 3.1.3 (especially as Apple included in 4.0.1 steps which are designed to make it hard for people to go back to 3.1.3 - who knows what extra steps they have included with 4.1 to make it still more difficult?) and that would mean I end up no better off and spending still longer trying to fix this. -
Oct 7, 2010 3:36 AM in response to blinkingby Bugfixer,Apple will never allow you (and me, btw) to go back to 3.1.3. What I know is that 4.1 back to 3.1.3 and 4.0.1 back to 3.1.3 are the same (not possible with iTunes only) procedure, but I understand your point.
From my side, I've seen a lot of differences from 4.0.1 to 4.1. There is much work on it than expected, and I'm happy.
Good luck! -
Oct 7, 2010 6:00 AM in response to Xplorer77by cwjb,Same problems here.
So after reading help the technologically backward. If you restore as new phone and not from backup, how do you get your calendars, contacts, apps back on your iphone? -
Oct 7, 2010 6:12 AM in response to cwjbby Bugfixer,Sync Calendars and Contacts doesn't come from backup, but just from your Mac calendar and contacts. What you backup are apps and their settings, AFAIK.
