Q: Iphone 3G slow after update to IOS4

The upgrade to IOS4 took forever but eventualy was completed succesfully.
But the iphone is very slow with IOS4. It doesn't work as smooth as it used to be. Also new applications such as the iBook application are very slow, doesn't respond smooth on screentaps etc. Who has the same experience?
I'm thinking about going back to version 3.1.3 because IOS4 doesn't add anything to improve the user experience on the iPhone 3G.

I hope Apple will listen to their iphone users and will release an update soon for iOS4 which improves the performance on older iPhones.

seems like apple have changed the app store so it no longer works correctly with iOS3.x.x

I now no longer can download apps or update individually (when you press the button nothing happens)

Also screenshots dont seem to work somtimes as well as ratings etc.... looks like apply really want ups to buy a new phone, so badly there stopping us using it!

I guess 2.5 years is too long a lifespan for an electronic device according to apple.....

Search for whited00r. It was the ony option to me, but I'm ditching it this month and I'm buying another phone.

great way to add speed to your iPhone 3G!

    Disable Spotlight on iPhone 3G

If iOS 4 has your iPhone 3G crawling, disable Spotlight search:

    • Tap on “Settings”
    • Tap on “General”
    • Navigate to and select “Home Button”
    • Scroll down to “Spotlight Search”
    • Disable everything by tapping the check box next to each item
    • Exit settings

You can leave some of the Spotlight search items enabled but I find that the best speed improvement comes from disabling everything.

I don’t even use Spotlight on my iPhone so I’m not missing this feature at all, but it does seem to improve the speed of the iPhone 3G in common tasks like flipping between screens, scrolling through text messages and emails, and even launching some apps.

Bottom line: if you don’t use Spotlight in iOS, disable it!

That doesn't work on all 3G iPhones. It didn't work on the one I had. The 3G's hardware is just not advanced enough to run iOS 4.

Sorry it doesn't work for you. Worked great on my 3G! Running 4.2.1 and it is SO much snappier!

That's good. I got an iPhone 4 back in the summer so I no longer have iPhone problems. I sold my 3G to a place that buys iPhones to use for parts.

I can't remember why I updated the iphone software for my iphone 3gs. I think there was an app that said it needed the newest version. So without researching, I updated . BIG MISTAKE

After the new update my Iphone is SO sluggish. I tried to use the restore function which doesn't work. Why is there a restore button there if it looks like it does not work for anyone??? I'm so dissapointed. The iphone was working so great before the update. It still works but is so slow. This has really tarnished my image of the apple brand.

I agree with this, I did disable spotlight and so far my iPhone 3gs seems to remain snappy. No need to go to 4s yet.
