Q: Iphone 3G slow after update to IOS4

The upgrade to IOS4 took forever but eventualy was completed succesfully.
But the iphone is very slow with IOS4. It doesn't work as smooth as it used to be. Also new applications such as the iBook application are very slow, doesn't respond smooth on screentaps etc. Who has the same experience?
I'm thinking about going back to version 3.1.3 because IOS4 doesn't add anything to improve the user experience on the iPhone 3G.

I hope Apple will listen to their iphone users and will release an update soon for iOS4 which improves the performance on older iPhones.

ive installed 4.0.1 - shows an extra bar on the signal (still does not seem to improve 3G signal) does NOT speed up iOS4 (seems even slower if anything when running VW scirocco game an an example)

AVOID.... im going to try some unofficial methods of getting 3.1.3 back on & jailbreaking if I have to, had enough of this....

My impression is that 4.0.1 speeds up my 3G a lot. Applications that took several seconds to open in 4.0 now are almost instant, like Mail and Safari.

Text messages show update faster 3 seconds instead of 4 seconds (I restarted after I installed iOS 4.0.1) Other things seem a little smoother

The main page (I think the animation that all the folder collapse into place after I type in my passcode maybe slowing it down a bit)

Calender is a little slow to load also

Have not tried a double reboot yet

I managed to remove iOS4.0.1 & install 3.1.3 again. much nicer. lost all my stuff though (like a new phone) so if you do this be prepared for that posibility. I wont be updating again thanks apple..

we're updating to 4.0.1 as I write - have to wait over twenty minutes, at around 200KB/s, it says ... seems like quite a big update for just a bar-scale change !

NB: did post earlier with a link for how to downgrade to 3.1.3, but Apple took it out & pointed-out I was going against the code - which was a surprise, because it had been posted before !

yep, 4.0.1 seems faster / snappier - Safari, Mail, various apps, quick-try ... hopefully will continue for more than a few hours !

My 3g is still as slow as before after I down loaded the latest 4.01 update.

Come on Apple if I have to update to the 4g because of my slow 3g I hope apple will trade my 3g in for a good price.

1. Sync all information (not "backup")
2. Restore iPhone
3. Set up as a new iPhone
4. Sync all information back

Sooooooo Slowww....and most of my apps kick me out from just trying to open them. If I would have known this, I wouldn't have upgraded my phone!!! The update is not anything special to begin with. How do I down grade to 3.1.3??

My phone is just as slow with 4.01 as it was with 4.0. The signal bars are larger, and I went from 5 bars, in my bedroom, to 3.

No speed or stability improvements for me.

ours remains (relatively) fast & snappy, since update to 4.0.1 ...

bars when used where am sitting now are three when they were five (more accurate, now, I guess) ... and they go to four when I hold the 'phone (3G) in a certain way - ie: in my left hand, with fingers top-left (touching headphone socket) and bottom-left (over speaker) ... no scandal about this, has always been so (& a good way to noticeably improve surfing speeds in marginal areas) ... IIRC, the headphone socket is one of its antennae ...

Help please

I have tried restore now I can not see my recent calls nor can I disconnect from a call if the other party doesnt hang up first.

I also have a problem with reception in areas where I use to have full signal and boy is it slow!

I really do not want to change phone brands but at this rate I will have to, I to be available 24 hours
