Jul 30, 2010 2:08 AM in response to Xplorer77by watsonhome,My biggest issue is not being able to answer half my calls, I can't move the green slider. Apple has ripped me off. -
Jul 30, 2010 2:09 AM in response to ollywrightby Christopher John Hunter,we found that, but that the gain faded over time ... but we found the RationalGuy fix solved the problem very convincingly ... see :

Jul 30, 2010 4:59 AM in response to Xplorer77by Edw3rd,This is driving my wife nuts. Sluggish is the nice word for it.
What are we to do? This upgrade was put through iTunes and showed as part of normal sync upgrades. This is not in all our years of Macs the way things should be. AT&T has been no help with suggestions. -
Jul 30, 2010 5:02 AM in response to Christopher John Hunterby Edw3rd,If this is the issue, why hasn't apple already fixed it in the OS and posted the update? -
Jul 30, 2010 5:12 AM in response to Xplorer77by GuillaumeMarchand,I have got the same problem.
I don't understand how Apple can deliver this kind of OS. It's poor quality. -
Jul 30, 2010 5:19 AM in response to Xplorer77by Justnico,Just got this tip, from a Dutch website: http://translate.google.nl/translate?u=http://www.appletips.nl/iphone-3g-ios-4-p erformance-verbeteren/%3Futmsource%3Drss%26utm_medium%3Drss%26utmcampaign%3Diphone-3g-ios-4-performance-verbeteren&sl=nl&tl=en&hl=&ie=UTF-8.
Hope it helps a little, turning off the Spotlight Searches, it also says Apple finally admits that it is a crappy OS for the 3G. Now just wait for iOS4.2 , where they say they will fix it. About time! -
Jul 30, 2010 6:45 AM in response to Xplorer77by Matt Eppel,Settings > General > Home Button > Spotlight Search
- deselecting what I did not need as suggested above - made it a little better for me also. The only thing I left checked was Contacts, Notes, and Mail. Need a fix from Apple to make it all usable though! -
Jul 30, 2010 7:05 AM in response to Xplorer77by Goflying, seems apple is not going to do *the right thing by its' customers* in any sort of timely manner unless they are forced to by the media
Leave a comment on the wall street journal here:

that may well be more effective at prodding apple into action -

Yes! I can second that. After following these instructions I found that my 3G was far smoother and more responsive. It's at least as good as my 2nd-gen iPod Touch, which is all I could ask for.
Thanks!!! -
Jul 30, 2010 8:19 AM in response to Xplorer77by Charles Lightfoot,How frustrating... How is it possible that Apple would not have tested this OS on there older models and warned us ???? Really ? Just when I accepted the fact that my i phone doesn't really work well for making calls but was great at "everything else", now that "everything else" has gone to poo poo... I really can't believe I'm considering switching back to Sony Ericsson ... Please get your Sh*# together Apple... -
Jul 30, 2010 8:20 AM in response to Xplorer77by lusciatti,It seems that unchecking the Spotlight settings and rebooting have my 3G running so much better. Not sure if the better performance will continue but it's working very nicely for now! -
Jul 30, 2010 8:35 AM in response to Xplorer77by dweckr,I have found the new IOS4 operating system to be a complete disater for my basic 8 G 3G iphone. I am on a 24 month contract with orange so I am stuck with this seemingly out of date phone. This update was clearly not made with the 3G in mind. It was a rush update to improve the signal clarity for the iphone 4. At no time on any apple webste has there been any warning that installing the I0S4 would cause the 3G to suffer a loss of function. Since installiing the program it has caused the GPS to go completly wrong saying I am 4 miles away from where I am. This never happened before and was previoulsy on the old operating system very accurate. When using Larger APPs they frequently crash and cause the phone to becaome unresponsive. I have had text messages which have been unsent and undelivered which has greatly affected my work and social life. Most upsettingly, I have lost all my photos having had to do a restore. I had picture of my only nephew which mean a great deal to me and his parents. I am very angry. I want aplle to notify all its customers of the problem with this new software and not advise 3G users to bother upgrading. I am stuck now with a phone on contract for the next 18 months which does not work which will cost me around £900. -
