Aug 3, 2010 8:31 AM in response to RickInHoustonby HawkHawk,I'm new to the user forum and mainly because I've never had reason to post anything until now. I'm feed up! My iPhone was working just fine until I upgraded to the POS4. Yes, P O S 4! After reading most of your horror stories, my latency issues don't seem that bad but still, the phone should work without problem!
The reason why I'm so feed up is because of the problems my wife has with her 3G phone. She backed up/syncd then upgraded. After the POS4 upgrade, ALL of her music was GONE! Nothing I could do about it and I'm using the same PC that I've always used for her phone!
What's even more frustrating is that there's NO resolution for all of our common problems. That's what I'm feed up with. If you go to the AT&T store, they say you have to visit an Apple store since AT&T cannot support the iPhone. They can sell it but can't support it! ***.
Time to dump Apple and move to another phone. I'm also sick of this iTunes crap. -
Aug 3, 2010 8:55 AM in response to HawkHawkby SpectreOne3,Like many others I am having numerous issues since upgrading to OS4. *I do not own a Mac* so is there a way I can rollback the firmware with a Windows PC?

Aug 3, 2010 8:43 AM in response to Xplorer77by lanie64,I'm chiming in and joining in on the complaint! Everything is slower and at times "stutters". Battery life is almost non-existent. (Speaking of battery, my phone has periodically shown me since I've had it - just over a year - that it has a full charge, only to completely and unexpectedly suddenly drain the battery empty and cycle down ... all the while the battery indicator showing me that there was a full battery. It will take 15 - 45 minutes to get any power back to the phone.) I've tried removing apps to free up memory; I've gone to my local Apple store and was told to "restore" the phone - which I did. I've even reset the network settings. Nothing has helped. Little frustrating, especially when trying to keep up with work. -
Aug 3, 2010 8:53 AM in response to Xplorer77by jshort,I'm getting the impression that many folks on this forum are not aware that you can downgrade the OS to 3.1.3. This solves all the problems associated with the 4.0 upgrade. Granted, this is not ideal and Apple should be providing the solution but if you want your phone to work then this is really the only solution for now.

Aug 3, 2010 8:57 AM in response to HawkHawkby doofus,I have had the same problems since the update. Software crashing, Apps crashing, Apps ridiculously slow.
I complained twice, both times I was advised that it wouldn't be the software. Both times followed the instructions knowing full well it would not resolve the problems and hey presto, it didn't.
Finally got through to second level tech support who arranged an appointment with the Genius Bar and suggested a replacement 3GS instead of a like for like. According to the Apple Store, this is simply not possible. So, I have a nice shiny new 3G that, once I sync it back up will perform like an iPhone on Valium.
I have also contacted Consumer Direct, according to them Apple are in breach of the 'Supply of Goods and Services act (1982). Once I find the correct address to send my letter of complaint I'll be outlining this point and others and see what the result is. I suggest others do the same. -
Aug 3, 2010 9:26 AM in response to jshortby Tim Hodgson,Yes, I'm considering this option (downgrading to OS3). The only thing that made me a bit hesitant was another post that said an Apple support person confided that OS3 is somewhat vulnerable, and OS 4 addressed those issues. So the choice might be slow and secure versus responsive and vulnerable. Not great choices, but I'm still considering going back to OS3. It's that bad.
Thanks. -
Aug 3, 2010 9:27 AM in response to Xplorer77by rj05coleman,Not only did it slow my phone down to a crawl (and i hardly have anything installed on it or any music etc on the phone) but now, like 10 minutes ago, my phone gave me the apple screen when I went to answer a phone call. now it won't reset, power down or do anything at all. I may take it in to apple to see if they can fix it or I may ditch the iphone altogether and go with a Droid. unacceptable if you ask me. esp. for the price you pay for the phone to begin with. -

Aug 3, 2010 9:39 AM in response to Xplorer77by fatherstew,Isn't it funny (well not really) that the only reply Apple has to this problem is "We're looking into it". It seems that Apple have our money and couldn't really care less about those still on the Iphone 3G. To date there is 56 pages of comments just on this topic on this site from ****** off customers including myself who upgraded to IOS4 thinking it was going to be great but its a lemon. I hadn't had one single problem with my phone until I upgraded. Now everything runs at turtle speed. Its crashed and restarted several times and the battery last half as long. If it doesn't crash itself I have to keep switching it off because its just about frozen. Now I here you can't even go back to the previous version.
This wasn't an upgrade, it was a move 20 steps backwards and over a cliff. If this wasn't a conspiracy by Apple to get people to buy a new phone, then its one **** of a mighty bungle that's costing their reputation big time. I won't be running out to by the new Iphone 4 anytime soon!! -

Aug 3, 2010 9:50 AM in response to jshortby bwareham,FYI, people have had mixed success with downgrading to 3.1.3, me included. Among other things, it didn't restore my wifi capabilities. It's not a cure-all. -

Aug 3, 2010 10:32 AM in response to yepppby emperorbruce,Now that I have 'bitten the bullet' and restored the phone by clicking on the button in iTunes that warns you that you will loose everything the phone is significantly faster (too early to say if it will stay that way). I was able to select a restore point from more than 3 months ago so I was interested to see if the old operating system had been restored as well - but no; its still running OS 4.01. -
Aug 3, 2010 10:33 AM in response to Xplorer77by pablo_guenther,Add my name to the list...
fix this apple! it is not a figment of our collective imaginations.
I have already had to replace my phone twice due to malfunctioning hardware...please try to get the software right.
I wonder what the PC guy has to say about this??
