Q: Iphone 3G slow after update to IOS4

The upgrade to IOS4 took forever but eventualy was completed succesfully.
But the iphone is very slow with IOS4. It doesn't work as smooth as it used to be. Also new applications such as the iBook application are very slow, doesn't respond smooth on screentaps etc. Who has the same experience?
I'm thinking about going back to version 3.1.3 because IOS4 doesn't add anything to improve the user experience on the iPhone 3G.

I hope Apple will listen to their iphone users and will release an update soon for iOS4 which improves the performance on older iPhones.

To add to my last post:

When my phone randomly freezes up, I try and do a hard reset on the phone. When I try and turn the phone back on, the apple logo stays on for a really long time (over 5 minutes) and the only way I can actually get the phone to turn on is to plug it into the charger and it forces it to turn on.

Looking at the software update page, I saw the headline

"iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS owners. Haven't upgraded to iOS 4 yet? The free iOS 4.0.1 Software Update brings over 100 new features to your iPhone. Here are a few."

So I finally broke down and uploaded it via iTunes to my iPhone 3G.

    So much for functionality...
Not only is it super slow (as with all the complaints), I have to perform a double hard reset (DHR) any time it goes to sleep just to make the phone turn on. If I needed to make an emergency call to 911, it will take me at least three minutes with the DHR just to gain access to the phone. When a phone call comes in, the phone doesn't ring (because it's dead when it's asleep). There are no notifications of text messages. When the phone is awake and a call comes in, the phone rings once, then goes to voicemail. I'm not able to answer the phone.

My wonderful iPhone 3G that has worked perfectly for the last year, has now been turned into a useless piece of junk because of IOS 4.1. And of course, there is no way of going back to the previous OS.

The reality of the situation is that I feel cheated, no duped, into this new OS that has essentially destroyed my phone.

I want a fix or a way to go back to the old OS...

I have the same problems as you. This is why I came to this website hopefully to fine some answers because APPLE IS SURE NOT GIVING ANY ANSWERS OR HELP.
IT IS SO FRUSTRATING I WANT TO THROW THE PHONE AWAY, BUT I NEED A PHONE AND I DON'T HAVE MONEY TO GET A NEW ONE. I guess that is what they want, for us to buy a new IPHONE4.

This is ridiculous. If Apple thinks this behavior will encourage me to upgrade to a newer iPhone think again. Why would I invest more money in a new phone that may be broken again by another poorly tested software update? Why is Apple not addressing our substantial concerns? I say that it is time for all of us to start flooding the Genius bars and make our frustrations known! C'mon Apple, be responsible and responsive to your user community!

2 months and 56 pages in and Apple still has done nothing to fix this situation? Pretty lame if you ask me. This has a big impact on my mac/apple preference.

My iPhone 3G is just plain crap with iOS 4. It used to be wonderful with iOS 2, slowed down a little bit but got great extra functionality with iOS 3, but now, with iOS 4 it's just a useless piece of crap that's annoying me more than ever. It reminds me of the old crappy Nokias I used to have that froze every half an hour! This is just unacceptable from an Apple product!
Most of the apps, even the built-in ones like Messages, Notes, Safari (especially this one) and Maps have become unsuable in that they're really slow and crash all the time. I noticed that apps tend to crash when I use the keyboard, especially when switching between languages or when the keyboard pops up for typing...

Hope iOS 4.1 fixes that and fixes it soon. I was so going to buy iPhone 4, but after that I'm starting to loose faith in Apple, in that it no longer can guarantee that a product will even work (not to mention the rest of super-magical functionality that Apple used to offer)...

Big dissapointment so far! Hope we get a fix soon!

Update 4.01. is a MESS !!!! my 3GS was working perfect before in 4.0. I can hardly use my PHONE in my own home among many other places where i had perfect reception and call quality before. I cant believe this. i left verizon for this. What a big let down. !!!!! is this a scheme to have users buy signal boosters or some other device to obtain the call quality they had before?

APPLE NEEDS TO FIX THIS FAST !!!!

Have been a loyal Apple customer for 17 years, understand that nobody's perfect but this is completely unacceptable. My formerly terrific 3g phone barely works, maps are useless and battery drains at least 2x as fast. Can only talk on the earbud as the phone gets so hot can't even hold it. Takes 15-20 seconds for settings to open.

I paid $318 for this phone 2 years ago, and pay AT&T $85/month for poor signal and constant dropped calls. I would expect it to function a little while longer. How about a credit towards a new phone that actually works?

Same problem, Apple. Upgraded wife's 3G and my 3Gs to 4.01. My 3Gs isn't terrible, but certainly MUCH slower than with 3x, especially Camera, Text and Map.

Wife's 3G Map app practically unusable unless we're in no hurry at all. Takes forever to load and update. We end up hitting buttons 2-3 times trying to get it to respond, then all the commands fire at once and we screw up what we were trying to do. Very frustrating. Turned a perfectly functioning phone into a pretty useless device.

Apple: Either fix iOS4 or give us a consumer easy way to revert back to 3x.

I use to have full bars before the IOS4. Now it fluctuations between 1 through 3. I get drop calls and miss calls that never ring. I don't think APPLE is listening.
