Q: Iphone 3G slow after update to IOS4

The upgrade to IOS4 took forever but eventualy was completed succesfully.
But the iphone is very slow with IOS4. It doesn't work as smooth as it used to be. Also new applications such as the iBook application are very slow, doesn't respond smooth on screentaps etc. Who has the same experience?
I'm thinking about going back to version 3.1.3 because IOS4 doesn't add anything to improve the user experience on the iPhone 3G.

I hope Apple will listen to their iphone users and will release an update soon for iOS4 which improves the performance on older iPhones.

I've sent my thoughts three times. This is the place you need to speak if you want Apple to hear it...

Very slow for me as well. Unbearably slow, makes the phone frustrating to use. As a device that used to be very handy to do quick tasks I find myself trying to avoid using it.
Please fix Apple! This is unacceptable! You cut out certain aspects of iOS4 because the phone was too slow, at least what is remaining should work well!

I have never felt so let down by a company. I have 5 macs and I am ready to throw them all away.
After my "update", what was once the central tool of my every day life has now become a constant reminder of deep disappointment and betrayal. My current 3G ***** BIG-*******-TIME. But, being a loyal apple user I assumed that the local apple store would be sympathetic and rush to assist me.
WRONG! All I received was snide indifference and empty apologies.
I called the corporate office - the same response.
My beautiful apple has become rotted to the core.
Unfortunately, I have only one thing left to say to big Mac - **** YOU! sir

We have to realize now that the cool, somewhat rebellious company we bought computers from all these years (my first in 84) is really just a corporation like most others. The products are still slick, but in the end the ethos is now about secrecy, shareholders and profits. Not that it wasn't before, but it seems to have gotten stronger and permeates the cozy feeling a lot of us had in the past about them being different.

My biggest problem is the GPS, mapping, and wifi.
This doesn't seem to be addressed as far as I can tell.

Even if you were to downgrade to 3.1.3 it doesn't bring it back. I think Apple have short circuited the GPS parts!!

It's the lack of acknowledgment of the problem and no way of finding out what is happening.

Lo and behold, angry iPhone 3G users! Apple has released iOS 4.1 Beta 2 to developers and the report is that is COMPLETELY SOLVES the iPhone 3G lag issues!! Hoooray!! In fact, most report that it's faster and more responsive than ever before

Now we just have to sit by patiently and await for it's public/consumer release.. which, I hope, will happen before I lose it one day and run my 3G over

I'm not sure if i can post links, but just google "iphone ios 4.1" and you'll get plently of info on it...

If they've already fixed it, why does everyone have to wait for 4.1 with its stack of yet more new features? Why the **** doesn't Apple put out a 4.0.2 update before they lose more formerly loyal customers?

I'm sure most 3G users aren't crying over their slow, crashing, call-dropping handsets because they can't wait another minute for Game Center (whatever the ** that is).

This is one problem I didn't experience. I don't think I tried using Maps while I was on iOS 4.0 and 4.0.1, but I've certainly used Maps & GPS since downgrading back to 3.1.3, and everything seems to be working fine, including WiFi. In fact, since making the downgrade, I don't have one single complaint about my 3G iPhone.

Yeah, yeah, I know. It's unsupported by Apple. I don't think I'll miss the outstanding (said sarcastically) support they've given me since tricking me into this destructive OS upgrade.

This is my first post. I've had my 3g for over 1 1/2 years and have loved it. But ever since the ios4 update it's been a dog. Everything takes several seconds to open or load and sometimes apps open, load, and then close all by themselves. E-mail and text particularly is extremely sluggish. The sounds associated with tapping or unlocking the phone are significantly delayed. I've tried resetting, restarting, deleting - NOTHING. I'm certainly not going to buy a new phone if they can't make their previous phones function correctly. This combined with AT&T's lousy service has me out looking at other carriers and phones.

After updating my 3G to 4.0, I lost all my photos and phone ran unsustainably S L O W . (even after I've reset and used the last backup....)
after updating again, this time to 4.0.1, all remained the same.. occasionally it looks like it might be running slightly faster but just as i manage to notice it its back to being so slow its impossible to use (any operation takes 10 times longer than before)
one good thing happened tho, one day (without any explanation)i opened my photo library, and was asked to attend as it was 're-building' the library..... all my lost photos were back!....... who knows what made that happen.......
    When i got my 3G it was the ideal instrument for work;
it was quick and easy to use now its simply a nightmare, and i dont want to buy a new phone just because the G4 is out!! (my phone was working PERFECTLY before i had the bad idea of updating.
if this was done in order to sell more 4G i must say its a dirty move, i wouldn't have expected from APPLE.

Spotlight did nothing for me. I'm just going to patiently wait for 4.1 and until then I will use my 2G I have laying in the drawer. I don't want to downgrade and risk losing anything off my phone like some have had happen. sigh
