Aug 6, 2010 7:58 AM in response to Xplorer77by rstoppiello,1st time poster. Loved my 3G. Now its slow as heck since 4.0. I tried the spotlight fix, i tried the dual hard reboot, and its still takes up to 10 SECONDS to display the keyboard in either messages or email. What was the best in class device for my business, is now a joke.
I am up for renewal in September and wont be paying $18 x2 for my wife and I to upgrade early just because you 'stealth crippled' my phone.
Fix it NOW, or lose to android more quickly. In september, ill go with the Incredible which is insanely responsive. Sad. Really loved my phone. -
Aug 6, 2010 11:28 AM in response to Xplorer77by smithb1976,This update ruined the 3G iphone! The phone is a piece of s#!t now! It is hard to believe the apple did not try the update on these phones before they released it. Before this I thought Apple had the best software on the market. Apple needs to fix this problem yesterday! -
Aug 6, 2010 12:45 PM in response to Xplorer77by pippagain,i tried the dual reboot, i tried unchecking (first some, then) all the spotlight search options...and a variety of other wacky fixes. my iphone 3g was still unbearably slow.
then, i downgraded to 3.1.3 using one of the tutorials easily found on the internet (or in this thread, unless they've been removed).
the phone's working fine, now.
sorry, apple. i'll be jailbreaking next. -
Aug 6, 2010 1:21 PM in response to pippagainby Robertito,I have the same problem unitl I do that :
Clean all the caches (General pref)

Aug 6, 2010 2:24 PM in response to Jonathan Holtzmanby Christopher John Hunter, class action, class action, don't be daft - no wonder Apple (& others) have to play it cagey & keep us all in the dark - dumb idea, IMHO !

Aug 6, 2010 2:51 PM in response to x1daydreamer6xby Rob A.,Too funny, I created a thread asking when this was going to be available (a week or so ago) and my thread got deleted.
In fact, I was told it was just all rumor and nonsense. So my thread is deleted as being "rumor" yet it turns out it wasn't a rumor at all and Apple moderators knew it wasn't a rumor but "believed" no such information should have been released to the public so they deemed it as a rumor knowing it wasn't.
How is that for bizarre Apple Logic?
So I'll ask this question again, when can we expect to see the fix for OS4 on 3G phones?
Again, how is keeping everyone in the dark a good thing for Apple???

Aug 6, 2010 3:06 PM in response to Xplorer77by duke,Attention folks - the distinction is important. When you restore your iPhone 3G or 3Gs reset it as a New Phone. Not just a simple restore.
However, be aware, this will take hours - not minutes and the Apple Tech Note says so. but it is worth it. -
Aug 6, 2010 3:15 PM in response to Xplorer77by NIETOS,Apple, I did all the suggestion on this discussion. Nothing has worked. In fact, it is getting worst. I had a call and the slide bar would not function AT ALL!!!----FOR 5 MINUTES!!!! UNACCEPTABLE!!!!
My 2 year contract renewed in July. I was going to get the IPHONE4, but I was waiting to get some money. NOW---FORGET IT!!!!.
I had an amazing product; now it is worthless!!!! -
Aug 6, 2010 3:19 PM in response to dukeby NIETOS,Where do I fine the Apple Tech instruction to download the prior version 3? -

Aug 6, 2010 3:47 PM in response to Xplorer77by Garritt,Just got off the phone with Apple support. I am very unhappy. After I upgraded my iPhone 3G to IOS4 it became completely unusable. Apps crashed and hung up. The phone was VERY SLOW!!!! Songs and podcasts would stutter and stop during playback.
I updated to 4.1 hoping that would help, but it didn't.
I can't live without my phone. I use it all day for navigating, music and podcast playback, email, web surfing, and (gasp) to make calls. I had been a HUGE fan of the iPhone, and have personally convinced a few people to buy them (and unfortunately they upgraded too).
Because I need my phone to actually work, I downgraded to 3.1.3 and was forced to jailbreak, because apple offers NO way to officially downgrade. because the modem firmware got upgraded during the OS update, iTunes won't let you downgrade to an older version. UGH!
Now, my phone is much more stable, but it still isn't working correctly. I can't connect to YouTube using the official YouTube app, and some other apps don't work properly.
I JUST WANT MY OLD WORKING IPHONE BACK!!!!
I called Apple support and was told there is no way to downgrade (officially), and BECAUSE I JAILBROKE MY PHONE, MY WARRANTEE IS VOID!!!! Very bad service! Apple's software and firmware update BROKE MY PHONE, and they can't or won't fix it, and the only fix VOIDS MY WARRANTEE!!!
I feel like Apple is trying to force me to upgrade my hardware by breaking my good, working iphone 3G, which isn't even two years old. I can't even express how frustrated I am, and this is coming from a true Apple fan. I have owned 9 or 10 Macs, starting with a PowerMac 7200, and including a Cube. I have purchase 2 iPods, an iPhone, and countless accessories and software upgrades. More than that, I have encouraged a ton of people to buy Macs and iPhones, and because of my position and knowledge, they have. Now, I feel betrayed.
PLEASE FIX THIS APPLE!!!! I WANT MY PHONE BACK! -
Aug 6, 2010 4:24 PM in response to Xplorer77by Allister Gourlay,Hi like all you out in iphone land with 4.0 or 4.1 update - my 3g iphone has also ground to a halt so slow - emails are taking forever to come up - screen shuts down - calls are cut off ...apple please get this sorted or give us an option to back grade to the previous software! I have no time to hack my phone back! -
Aug 6, 2010 4:27 PM in response to Xplorer77by tmi4now,I have already posted a litany of problems I have had since "upgrading" to iOS4. But today was so slow I timed going from my home screen to my iPod function. it took ELEVEN SECONDS to go from home screen to functioning iPod mode.
I will not utter invectives against Apple, nor ascribe motive to their corporate strategy. I will only say that there must be a fix very soon or the loyal customer base and good will shall continue to erode.
Eleven seconds to go from home screen to play a tune is just bizarre! -
Aug 6, 2010 5:32 PM in response to Garrittby lens,There were instructions on Lifehacker on how to roll back to 3.1.3 that did not involve Jailbreaking. I don't know if following those now would get your old phone performance back, but when I did that to undo 4.0, my phone worked the same as it did before the upgrade. Just be sure to do back up first because I did somehow manage to lose my old Notes contents.
