iTunes 9.2.0.61 cannot connect to iTunes Store

To make a long story short, I have been through the forums and tried everything to no avail. I was asked to update iTunes in order to update my iPhone to ver 4. This was 3 days ago and I still have not updated my iPhone. I have updated iTunes to the above and cannot connect to itunes store. I have tried the forums which seems to have improved things but it is still not working. I have access to the iTunes store from my laptop and iPhone (Wifi) When I run iTunes and try to access the store it says "iTunes could not Connect to the iTunes Store. Make sure your network connection is active and try again"

If I go to the iTunes help tab and Run Diagnostics, the Network connectivity test passes and verifies all ok???????????????

I am not an IT guy but to my way of thinking, something is pointing iTunes to the wrong place when it wants to go to the store. I have spent enough time trying to fix my PC after apple broke it and would like to just upgrade my iPhone 3gS. I am waiting for an email from Apple since yesterday but would appreciate it if someone here could help me get this sorted.

Herewith the additional info that may be required as well as verification that I should be able to connect to iTunes store.

I was having the same problem yesterday until late at night. It's my best guess that the Apple servers are overloaded with people doing updates. I was not able to connect to iTunes to complete the update until 10:00pm CST (after trying most of the day). It did finally connect and the update was complete after an hour.

My suggestion is to try off-peak times: early morning; late evening.

I've been having this problem for THREEEEE YEARS!!! I never tried fixing it before. I currently have an iPhone 3G & am getting my iPhone 4 in 3 weeks so I want to start using iTunes w/my new product. I spent over 5 hours trying to fix it last night.. Apple says its not them and they can't help because my computer isn't an Apple product. HP can't help because my warrantee has expired. Comcast says its not them, I have a good network connection.. BLAH! I am out of ideas for now..

I finally recieved an email from apple giving me links to the web explaining how you can overcome problems with Windows 7,Vista etc. It may help if they actually read the complaints. As a final goodbye I was pointed at the forums so it looks like my only hope is for someone on the forums to help.

I would really appreciate it if someone with IT experience can help me fix this problem. I am too scared to upgrade my PC at home so I guess I will not be upgrading my iPhone any time soon.

Thanks for the help.

I would really try this...

Edit > Preferences > Parental Control and check iTunes Store, Allow access to iTunes U and click OK. Try going to the store. Then go back to Preferences and uncheck iTunes Store

or the LAN settings..

After sitting at my computer for HOURS on Wednesday trying almost everything everyone suggested... I logged back into my PC Thursday & somehow my iTunes store was connected. I have absolutely no idea what I did. Point is you should probably try those, turn it off then turn it back on & see if that helps. I really wish I could help. I know exactly how much of a pain this entire issue can be.. Good luck!
