Downloaded Fonts Don't Show Up...

hello...
i've recently donwloaded many fonts from dafont. i open the downloaded files, and install them into the font book... they're also in my library/fonts folder, ive even manually dragged them in...
however the fonts dont show up in any applications except TEXTEDIT that comes on the mac...
it doesnt show up in Word, Photoshop, etc...
on my older computer, once it was downloaded i just restarted the application, and the fonts were there....

how come they're not showing up in these applications?

please help!!
