For any one else - this was Windows Vista on a Dell inspiron, went to Start menu-> Settings-> Control Panel-> Device Manager -> Display Adaptors -> right click on ATI Radeon (in my case) and then "Update driver software" and let windows search the webDell Inspiron, Windows Vista

Got a Dell Inspiron, had the same problem for weeks, did the full uninstall / install, no joy. Limited success finding a solution on any of the other threads / forums.
