How do I transfer old text messages

Hi all,

How do I transfer old text messages from my 3G on to my new iPhone4? If I click restore, will it let me restore back to a setting from the 3G?

2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo + 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro 15", Mac OS X (10.6.4), Western Digital External Hard Drive 1TB + Iomega eGo 320GB

I did an update right before activating my néw iPhone 4 yesterday and have all the same settings, pics, texts, etc as my old 3GS.

Thanks Iakona,

However, in my excitement, when I first plugged in the iPhone 4 I set it up as a new phone ... but then forgot about the text messages.

Is there any way I can move them across or are they lost forever? They are still on my 3G at the moment.

Back up your 3g and after that connect your iphone4 to itunes and restore from last backup

I am really nervous about losing my Text messages (SMS) are you so sure that if I connect my New Iphone 4g that I will get my text messages because I did not think that the Itunes backup kept them.

I set up my new phone from my previous backup, and all my text and voicemail messages came over automatically. When the new phone was activated I got a message from AT&T that talked about the ability to undelete old voicemail, but I don't know if old texts can be resurrected. Good luck.

Maybe you should try that thing called a pencil and paper and write some important info down if u need it that bad.

When you activated the new iphone itunes should have asked if you want to transfer the backup to the new phone. if itunes didn't then dock the new iphone but be sure to disable automatic sync (itunes preferences/devices) and itunes will see the iphone and you can restore the backup to the new iphone.

seriously haha. whats the BIG DEAL with text messages anyway?
i literally reset my old iphone 3g once i got my iPhone 4 anyway.
i bet he has text messages of endless love from his ex girlfriend or something.
