iPhone microphone not working

My new iPhone's microphone doesn't seem to be working properly. I can hear people who call but they can't hear me unless I switch to speaker mode.

Without speaker mode, I can only be heard if I shout VERY loudly. I've tried calling a few different people and the result is the same.

Any thoughts?

Yes, this was the case for me too. Took a match actually, and split it in half and used for cleaning. Since I know it's not a good idea to stick in sharp and metal(ish) objects in there. At first I didn't seem to get anything out but then all of a sudden - BLAM! - a pretty big crust of dust came out. Haven't even tried the microphone yet - I can clearly SEE that it goes all the way in now. Success!

Have the same issue with charging as well, so I'm gonna put on the ghostbusters suit and go in there too.

I'm having the exact same problem, I can hear other people but they can not hear me unless I switch to speakerphone or use the headphone external mic!

I have tried making a recording using voice memo with the internal mic without any success, just get white noise, however if I make a recording with the headphone mic it works just fine!

Gonna take mine in to apple tomorrow, hopefully they will just swap it!

I am experiencing the same exact problem. I believe I have part of the explanation but not a solution. When the phone is in speakerphone mode it seems to use the mic that's on top of the phone, which makes sense because I read that FaceTime uses the top mic, not the main mic on the bottom. I wonder if the problem has anything to do with the new noise cancellation "feature."

I just spent 14 hours waiting in line outside the Apple Store in Santa Monica. I'm not thrilled about having to go back.

Has anyone tried blowing into the mic? (Grill on the bottom left of the phone)

I noticed yesterday when toying with one of these that had the same problem that while it didn't register my voice, if I blew into it it would register at a certain threshold.

Additionally, I had hard reboot the phone (power button + home button until the Apple logo comes up) and that temporarily fixed it for one call.

I am having a similar issue:

When I make voice calls either by speaker, normal handset, or bluetooth headset it does not recognize my voice and no one can hear me. However, if i try to use voice control or FaceTime using the handset it recognizes my voice and the other person can here me.

Already tried a restore and no dice. Will be heading to Apple Store as well...

I have a related problem, where the mic does not pick up voice on speaker phone, or video recording. However regular phone calls and Voice Recorder work fine. I think this is software related, as I downloaded another camcorder app from the app store, and if i use that to record video, you can miraculously hear everything...

I had similar problem with my phone when I got it yesterday. Went to the apple store, they couldn't replace it yesterday since the phone didn't officially release till today. they had me go back to day, and I got a new phone within 15mins, did not need to wait in line. I recommend if you can get to an apple store, go online and make an appointment and they should have ones in stock to swap out problems, Apple did give them some to do so. So even if they sell out of other phones, they should have them.
