iPhone 4 Syncing Problems?

Windows vista and windows 7 show that problem alot

Uninstall all of itunes and related programs

Install itunes on vista/7 by right clicking "run as administrator" on installer.exe

could be older version of itunes or corrupted AMDS

Having the same problem and I have a Mac. Tried everything I can think of and some things found on here. Still won't work.

Similar problems - seems to go through syncing contacts, calendars etc., then just goes to 'Syncing iPhone' and stays there until I stop it using the little (x) in iTunes

I am having the same problem on my MacBook!

I was able to sync it at first to get all my apps and music on. Then I wanted to put some movies on and iTunes would freeze, so I would have to forcequit it. I started iTunes with my iPhone 4 not plugged in, and everything was fine.

But then I plugged in my new phone and iTunes started to slow down. Now it says that the content of the phone was not recognized, and it says I have to restore my phone.

Not fun, but it seems like a software problem that can be fixed. I will try restoring later.

I have a very similar problem. Just restored my iphone 4 (from my older model) and the initial restore went ok. But then I checked off songs and it only partially got through the last popup box said it was adding one of the music files and never changed from that so had to kill it via task mgr.
This is the latest version of Windows 7.
Really need help on this since I can't seem to get through a simple sync.

Ok after spending 5 hrs trying to figure out the same problem, this is what I finally found to work for me. I have Windows 7 premium which is 64bit.

First, I found that I had the windows 7 version for the 32bit so I had to uninstall and reinstall. I googled and found that there is a certain way you need to uninstall and I have pasted it below.

It may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.

Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:

iTunes
QuickTime
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)

Next, I went to Apple.com and searched the iTune download for the right download for the 64bit which is below

After reinstalling and using the cable that was included ( I was using an aftermarket cord that I had bought previously) I have resolved the problem.

Not sure if this will help everyone but figured its worth a shot. I am now backing up my 3g to sync with the 4. Goodluck and hope this helps someone.

I am having this problem. This is my first ever iPhone, the iPhone 4. I'm trying to synch up with the contacts in the Address Book on my macbook running OS 10.5.8.

After I upgraded to iTunes 9.2, it did the original back up when I first plugged in the new iPhone, and it set up my account, etc. It went through the first phone back up process seemingly without issue. It let me copy music onto the phone.

But now that I check off "Synch Address Book," it's just cycling endlessly (per above description from the other user that I quoted above). Only way to end it is to hit that little "x" in iTunes synch window. And I can't bring my contacts onto the phone.

I'm experiencing a similar issue with my 32 gig iPhone 4 and my XP PC (only a few months old):

Syncing gets to a certain point (for me it's the 7th song every time), then itunes crashes, restarts and repeats the cycle.

I tried reinstalling itunes.
I tried de-reauthorizinging my PC through itunes
I tried turning off all security programs
I tried unchecking, deleting and re-encoding the song that was displayed when the hang-ups occurred.

I'm using the supplied cord in a working USB port
I updated iTunes


I'm restoring my iphone now
If that doesn't work I will try the above mentioned method of removing all traces of itunes...

This is a bad experience

restoring the iPhone does nothing to solve the problem in my case... It has the same failure, in the same spot too, which is a red flag to me. But I've ruled out any particular file as being the problem (I think).

I'm testing iTunes on an 80 gig iPod Video to see if it will sync anything successfully.

If it does, I don't see why it wouldn't be able to sync the more advanced, and therefore "better" iPhone 4, right? 😉

Are we alone here, or is there an apple tech working on this?

I'm not running any exotic software or hardware. I should be in line with what apple considers an average user...

Next step, wipe the existence of apple off my PC and start over? Will I loose all my ratings, playlists and library info?

When I uncheck "music" the phone sync's fine...

Could it be the naming convention of the files?

I don't see any common factors on what song it fails on... Seems to get 5 to 7 songs deep in the sync and then fails...
