Online Video Storage

Can anyone provide me with a recommendation for online data storage? I am accumulating a lot of HD video. I have a 1 TB hard drive that they are backed up on, but I'd like to have a secondary backup as well.

I looked into Mozy, which looked good, but it would only back up the files if the drive is connected. I'd like to take it off and store it in a fire-proof box. Thus, having both it and the online version available in case anything happened.

So I'm looking for online storage, not backup. I don't import new video often, so I can just manually add new files to both as I need to.

Just a note: a fireproof safe may not be temperature-proof. Most "fireproof" safes will still get to internal temperatures sufficient to damage or destroy the data on a hard drive. So check your safe's temperature rating before you use it to store any hard drive. Make sure it's rated for magnetic media, which according to UL standards would be a maximum of 125ºF (paper-rated safes allow 350º). Otherwise there's no point in locking up your drive other than for theft protection.

HD video gets pretty big and so would require quite a bit of time to upload to an off-site storage service unless you have a really big upload pipe. It might be more cost and time effective for you to just get a second hard drive, duplicate your backups of your videos on that, and store it off site somewhere, perhaps in a safe-deposit box. That might be most practical if indeed you don't need to access that drive often to update it.

Regards.
