iPhone 4 not vibrating at all

So my phone isn't vibrating at all for calls or sms on either loud or silent. Vibrate is enabled in settings for both. Am I doing something wrong here? Any suggestions? How long do we think it will be before I can get a replacement?

Smacking the back would work for me as well, but it would stop working after a while and I would have to smack it again and again. I took the back of the phone off (just two screws on the bottom) and just like someone said in a previous post, there was a little piece of clear tape begining to peal off the left side comming into the vibrator space. It was slightly touching the vibrating weight which I assume was causing the vibrator to stop working sometimes. You could probably take the piece of tape out but I just pushed it back where it belonged with a flat head screw driver and all is working well! If it happens again I am just going to remove the tape completely. Glad to see that entire replacement vibrators are only a few dollars on Ebay as well so if it does end up going out completely its a cheap easy fix.

HOLY MOLY IT WORKED! ! ! . . . My son spilled some tea on the table my phone was on and my vibrate stoped working. . I was really upset, and started looking for fixes the next day. Nothing was working, then I came across this post and tried the "ibrate" app and gave my phone a nice slap in the palm while the app was virating my phone, and It INSTANTLY worked. . thanks man for posting this. . Im very particular about my phone and was very upset that the vibrate wasnt working. manly because I use it so much. . You will still have to give it a palm slap from time to time, BUT only when it stops working. after a while it will work it self out and you will have to do this less and less. .

thanks again for the post, SAVED me BIG TIME! ! !

Holy smokes! My phone's vibrator stopped working today. I went through all the settings, etc. It's JB'd, so I thought it was related to that. Figured it was some software glitch in the JB, and I'd have to wipe out my phone and start over again.

Anyway....I turned my phone around, tapped in the upper right hand corner for a couple of seconds (medium hard), turned the vibrate buttons off and on again, and voila! My phone's vibrate is working again! Just like that!

Thanks man! Worked like a charm!

Saved me a lot of aggravation, because my iPhone 4 is well over a year old, and not under warranty anymore.

Oh wow, I just found this because I bought a refurbished iphone 4 from a 3rd party since you can't buy refurbs from Apple directly. Well the vibrator was stuck in it, and I could hear it clicking. I did what you said, except I had to let mine go for a little bit and 'warm up'. If you wait for like 5 minutes or so with the vibtrating app, you will notice the top right hand corner gets a little warmer after awhile. After it gets warm just give a nice little smack or tap (not too hard though) and it kicks in! My refurb is now perfect! I'm guessing it got stuck when shipped because it was cold when they delivered it. Thanks for this post!

I wish I could say this worked for me but, alas, it's still not vibrating. I tried tapping and smacking it against my palm several times and no such luck. Any other suggestions? I'll be upgrading when the next model comes out so I don't wnat to invest in repairing this one but I really miss the vibrating option for those times when sound is not appropriate.

If you do exacty what mrshinyteeth recommened, it should fix your problem. I just tried the iBrate, and after running it for a few minutes and rapping the iPhone 4 on the back, it started working. I think the motor gets stuck. Thanks mrshinyteeth!

As a recap:

1. Download iBrate from the App Store

2. Run iBrate and rap your phone in the upper right corner (viewed from the back)

3. It should start vibrating.

It worked for me.
