Aug 6, 2012 11:39 AM in response to whoknows7by m4tic,This issue recently happened to me. Running iBrate and tapping didnt work. I took off the back cover and didnt see any peeling tape. What I did was take the two screws off and dismount the motor (note the different screw sizes) and I noticed there was some brown gunk on one of the contacts (no idea what it was). I scraped this off, screwed the motor back in and violá! ...the motor started working.

Aug 9, 2012 10:13 PM in response to whoknows7by Jeet_Magic,Great solution, espacially since my 12 month warranty just got over...must point out that this is the 3rd phone I have...the first got changed since the earpiece didn't work...next one because the loudspeaker didn't work and this one also had problems with the vibration after I changed it!
Not sure why Apple replacements are not as good as the original box packs!

Oct 21, 2012 8:26 PM in response to whoknows7by Swall69815,I installed iBrate and slapped my iPhone against my knee about a dozen times and it started vibrating. It stopped working for about 10 minutes and I slapped it around about another dozen times and when it started working again I let iBrate work for about 10 minutes. Now everything works fine. Thx!

Dec 10, 2012 12:51 AM in response to buddyjoeby Jeet_Magic,I had the same problem and iBirate solved it only momentarily and the vibration system failed after a week...I then went to the Apple Store and they wanted to replace the phone by charging me around $200...I recommend not to do this since the replacement is a reburbished phone and can have other problems!
If your warranty is over...go to a local technician and get the vibrator replaced...I got it done in Bangalore, India for just $15...it has been working perfectly for the last 6 months.

Dec 24, 2012 1:39 PM in response to whoknows7by akg84,Hi,
May be my problem is different that what others had and got their phones working with this trick, I just didn't find any posts showing same problem as mine. My iphone 4 vibrator works in general but doesn't work only when I receive a call or text. When I say works in general, I mean it vibrates when I flip the silent switch, while selecting the options for ring in settings app. I turned on ibrate app for about 30 minutes and all the time the phone was vibrating. It just doesn't vibrate when receiving calls or texts. Though I don't see vibrator as problem, I was just thinking of replacing the vibrator. Anyone has any advice? Any help is highly appreciated.
thanks
Ashok

Dec 24, 2012 2:40 PM in response to akg84by fleetfox,hi akg84 and merry christmas :-)
have you checked in 'Settings > Sounds', whether 'Vibrate on Ring' and 'Vibrate on Silent' are turned on?
You can also individually set vibration patterns for incoming text messages and tweets. Make sure that thosed are switched on, as well...

Dec 24, 2012 3:49 PM in response to whoknows7by akg84,Thanks fleetfox and Merry Christmas. You made my day. Yes, the settings were always ON, but under vibration patterns, it was selected as 'none'. Never realised that vibration settings had to be done at two places. So stupid. I should looked into all the options first before posting.
