Q: iPhone 4: Error 9 on Restore

Hello , I have had this problem and was up all night then I decided to use a brand new USB cable that came with the iphone 4 instead of the old one I had been using ( but still was in good condition)  And after hours of Error 9 It just went through and restored my phone so i can confirm that Error 9 is fixed by using a new cord. I cant restore my iphone 4 I keep getting error 9 .. here is my update log ( i was trying to update to ios 4.3.5)

can anyone tell me if this is a hardware or a software issue ...

My iPhone is a 3Gs, but this should work for you.

Disable firewall.

Connect iPhone to USB cord & then to your computer.

Start iTunes.

It might say your card is missing. If so, just remove & replace card while still connected.

iTunes will finish the restore, follow prompts. Then re-install you apps, as needed.

If I'd disabled the firewall before starting the update I could have done the iOS update without all that hassle , fear, etc.

I purchased iphone 4 two days back . After activating it with my itunes , it asked me to update my iphone software. I clicked that link and it restarted my phone and till that time it cant be restored or updated . I am using windows 7 . Whenever I am connecting the device with my laptop it is asking me to restore and update , and whenever the restore procedure reaches to firmware , error 9 comes and thats all.

I cant use my phone anymore.. why there is no solution for this ?? I am really much upset ..

i got my iphone 3gs last week and it messed up when i tried syncing it to itunes... update, restore, error 9 bullcrap... finally after a few hours of messing around with it jumping through all the hoops, i hooked it up to another computer and it restored no problem, but i lost everything i had put  on it. it went back to square one. haven't tried anything concerning itunes since. haven't called the tech people as suggested by the sales person because i have serious doubts they can help. i used CA Security Center for virus protection.

The little smart card. It is in the top of my 3Gs. You have to use a pin or paperclip thing to open the hatch to remove it.

To restore your apps, look in the iTunes for apps Should be listed. If iTunes is updated & iOS is not can cause problems. Both must be updated as updates come available.

You have to use the iTunes you sync with.

Just be sure you disable your firewall & maybe your antivirus software before up dating the iPhone.

I have just updated my 1 month old iPhone4 and got the Error 9 message... EASY EASY fix - all I did was to unplug the iPhone from my pc (win7) and uninstalled iTunes totally.   Restarted the computer... then installed another version of iTunes... plugged the iPhone back in via usb and it recognised and reset it.

To my suprise all of my contacts/emails/sms/calender items were all there (so must have backed up firstly) this was my first attempt to sync this phone... almost a disaster... but thankfully a little scooting around online solved this.

Blood pressure and dislike towards Apples naff solution called iTunes has setttled a lot since not losing some important data...  phew!

I too was a victim of the frustrating error 9. I had been dying for the past 3 weeks. With the apple support in India, failing to do a restore, I was directed to ask for a replacement (as it was within warranty). With the iOS5 being released recently, I tried to do a last attempt. To my surprise the updgrade happened flawlesly unlike my previous attempts.

To all u guys out there with this error, I would suggest to try doing an upgrade to iOS5 using itunes 10.5.

hi guys, the restore error 9 is just flash memory chip hardware error so plz service your chip and you iphone will back again.........

Hi... This happened to me on Thursday.  Tried different USB ports, cords, computers, networks.  When I took it to the Genius Bar they got the same response on their systems.  I was told this is more than likely a hardware mulfunction and was given a new phone by Apple on the spot.

If your phone is no longer under warrently you may have a problem.  Otherwise I suggest you make a Genuis Bar appointment ASAP.   

I was bout to rip my hair out since I had just bought the phone few hours earlier, did this...

unplugged my rocketfish hdmi from my mac, also my audio interface, restarted my computer, restarted iphone and plugged it in, and restored smoothly, it worked, hope this helps someone.
