Samsung ML-2525W Series - "Printer offline"

Just got a Samsung ML-2525W laser printer and have it connected via USB to my MacBook (OS X 10.6.4). First job prints fine but the second job fails to print, and the Print Queue indicates "printer offline".

If I unplug the printer and power it on again, the second job prints immediately.

Any suggestions? All software updates are installed, and I have already deleted and re-added the printer in Print & Fax Preferences.

Thanks!

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

I was having similar problems with my new ML-2525W. A Samsung rep had me download the driver from the Samsung site, but neither that driver, nor the driver on the included CD worked. I followed the link listed above (below?), namely:

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL905

This page says it has the Samsung drivers shipped with 10.6 Snow Leopard. Perhaps the included drivers were buggy or missing something. In any case, after installing this download and adding the printer in the System Prefs, my MBP flawlessly printed from Preview, Word, and a Chrome webpage (all wirelessly, never attaching a wire during the process). Hope this works for others as easily...

This fix actually works. The only problem is the firmware installation program is a windows .exe file. I just reconnected the printer to my Dell laptop, ran the firmware install script. The lights flashed for about a minute on the printer, and I reconnect it to the mac. Thanks for the tip, I would have never figured this out, and I am more than a bit disappointed in the mac support for samsung.

Latest firmware (V1.01.00.83), release notes indicate it fixes the "print once then offline" issue in 10.6

Sorry about the double post. This fix actually works. The only problem is the firmware installation program is a windows .exe file. I followed the instructions described here and uninstalled the Samsung-provided driver and Smart Panel. My firmware seems to be up to date (v. 1.01.00.83). However, I am having problems with the wireless setup. My printer does not "see" the SSID of my Time Capsule base station. Same problem with my Airport Express. I made sure that the SSID is being broadcast (not a closed network) and access control is turned off. I even tried disabling the 5GHz network and the WPA2 security for good measure. No luck. But the printer has no problems seeing the SSIDs for other networks in work building (non-Apple hardware, I'd guess). I just can't get it to find mine.

Has anyone else had problems connecting to Apple base stations?

seems to work now, i pieced it together from what was posted above, thanks all

1) followed steps 1-7 as posted by wtimothyholman page 3

2) followed steps 3-8 posted by Vesrah on page 3

3) but selected the ML-2525W Gutenprint drivers instead

this fixed the general connection problem, but not the timeout

download and unzip the firmware as posted by scair on page 3/4:

4) open SyncThruWeb in Safari by typing in the printer IP determined earlier

5) select the "ML2525_V1.01.00.83.hd" file from the download for firmware upgrade in SyncThruWeb

instead of the printer going "offline", i now got "can not connect to printer retry in x seconds" error, so

6) likely the most important step: RESET YOUR ROUTER

good luck

Fixed worked for me. (Macbook Pro 13" 2011, OSX v10.6.8). Downloaded Driver v4.00+ and uninstalled, reinstalled, then from preview printed an image, selected the printer from a printer list, hit the power button on the printer so the blue wireless light came on, boom printer works.

Things change all of the time, so hopefully this helps anyone with a recent purchase/install.

A little hint to everyone: When pressing the upside-down triangle on the printer to receive the IP you should press exactly 5 - 7 seconds (not more). Otherwise you will get other reports. There are 3 reports that can be printed. Took me quite a while... I was pressing too long

It prints a demo page by pressing this button only.

By pressing the User uploaded file (cancel button), you can:

Printing demo page

In Ready mode, press and hold this button for about 2 seconds until the status LED blinks slowly, and release. (See Printing a demo page.)

Printing configuration sheet

In Ready mode, press and hold this button for about 5 seconds until the status LED blinks fast, and release. (See Printing a machine report.)

Printing a cleaning sheet

In Ready mode, press and hold this button for about 10 seconds until the status LED blinks slowly, and release.

Tried this about six time...could never get it to work. Oddly, I used the ML-2525W for over a year just fine, but the other day I decided to change my outdate network password, and after the network was working again...the printer was not. I finally deleted it, all its drivers, etc. and tried the steps outlined by timothyholman, but can't get it to work. It finds my network, but when I select it and enter the passphrase, it churns around for a few minutes and tells my my password is wrong. Of course, it's not...and I entered about ten times to make sure. Then I even changed the Network password and it still wouldn't work.

Hate to give up on it...but will have to get an HP I guess. At least they setup easily and also have AirPrint.
