Issue With Using Headphones to Make Calls

So is anyone noticing this problem with their headphones and iPhone 4?

When I have my headphones plug in (I've tried with 3 different sets of Shure's and 2 Nike Headphones) - during a call I now hear outside noise in my ears.

When I plug in the normal white ibuds - it's operation as usual.

I love using my Shure's as they block out the outside world, and during a call it's nice to be able to hear in a noisy environment.

Never had any issues with past iPhone's and 3rd party headphones.

Any suggestions?

This iPhone 4 has a noise canceling microphone mounted high on the case somewhere according to a tear down I saw posted.

Its presence could impact other noise canceling systems.

I've had a similar problem. I've got skullcandy FMJ headphones that have worked fine on blackberrys and previosu iphones. I've tested them out trying to record a note and i get this wierd static and a strange sort of bumping noise. Playback then cuts in and out of my recording. Tried with the apple headphones and it seemed to work alright.
....might have something to do with the noise cancelling headphones? Hopefully a firmware fix, don't wanna fork out anothe $100 for some new headphones that will work!

Hello folks,

I have this same exact issue with my (v-moda vibe duo) on my iPhone 4, when I make a call the person on the other side hears my ambient noise ( cars passing by, TV on, people talking in the background ect..) on my side of the line, but when I start to speak they tell me my voice sounds choppy. When I remove my headphones and use the phone normally I get great voice quality. Any ideas how can I fix this?? I never had this issue with my 3GS

+1. When the call starts ringing the actice mic kicks in and all I can hear is the ambient noise magnified through my headphones. In noisy situations eg train station, it is hard to hear anything other than the ambient background noise.

I think the Apple product testing team must have all been on holiday when this phone was being readied for launch.
