iPhone 4: GPS Indicator Stuck?
Custom, iOS 4
Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
Custom, iOS 4
I have noticed that this problem occurs whenever an APP that uses the GPS crashes.
In my case as someone pointed out that, the weather channell app was crashed and icon became a tattoo on my phone. I deleted the app based on someone's advice and boom it dissappeared. Thanks to this forum.
This evening there is a new update from TWC. It's supposed to fix the GPS but they knowingly released. Hopefully for those who still want to use the app, the update works.
Yes the update works. Just install it and relaunch TWC.
Hi all, I just downloaded the new bug fix for the weather channel app but the icon is still permanent on my screen. And it is purple in color also which I'm assuming means sone app is using it still. Any body else having the issue still? Thanks.
PS: I have the iPhone 3GS with ios4. Thanks..
I had the icon permanently on, I logged my self out of Latitude and it fixed it. If you go to settings location Service and switch off each application using Location Service one should eventually switch it off, when you find out which one is using it turn the rest back on.
For me it is FourSquare. If I turn off locations services for 4sq in settings the gps icon immediately disappears. If I enable it it turns on. Even when the app isn't running. I think it is the new 'notify about nearby' feature.
My indicator was stuck on and found that it wasn not because of The Weather Channel App. It was because I had set a reminder in the Reminders app that would alert me when i got to work. as soon and i completed this task after a week the GPS indicator turned off instantly
My indicator was stuck due to the app scoopshot which was using background tracking by default.
Same with me. Foursquare kept the GPS running all the time on iPhone 4s. I ended up removing the app from my phone.
I was dealing with this problem for a while too. (iPhone 4 - iOS5)
Did a restart & then even a restore. All to no avail.
Then I realized that in iOS5 under settings/location services, you can actually see which app is using your location at that moment...So I just turned off the location services for the app in question.
Fixed.
probably late but this worked for me.
settings
location services
scroll all the way down to system services
see what is using your location service.
turn off or leave on if its of use.
Disabling Loopt also made the GPS icon go away.
iPhone 4s. I was running WeatherBug Full version. I downloaded an update for the WeatherBug and I had the same thing where my GPS indicator was stuck on. Per Y2C's suggestion earlier in this thread, I removed WeatherBug and the icon disappeared. However, after reinstalling WeatherBug, it came back...smh.
Looks like WeatherBug needs to fix this screw up...
I had the same problem
Just go to setting >>Location Services
No need to turn it off at all
Just see which one of your apps has GPS indicator and see which indicator is in purple colour
Delete the app and install it again
I hope it works
