iPhone 4: GPS Indicator Stuck?

It appears that my GPS indicator is stuck. I have killed all task that rare in the "task manager". I have also restarted the phone and did a hard reset. Anyone else having this problem?

Does any of the other location based stuff work? Can you take pictures around town and then look at the new "Places" tab in the Photos App to see if they are placed (red pins) around town where you shot them?

You could always perform a full restore. Be sure you have a recent backup, then do a restore from within iTunes (Summary tab) to return the iPhone to an out-of-box condition, then restore to your latest backup. This should hopefully work. If not, there could be an issue with the GPS itself.

I have the same problem. I tried doing a full restore but that did not work. The GPS indicator in the maps app can find my location when I first launch the app, but then it never updates and is missing the blue pulsating rings. So when driving in the car it just stays in one spot. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Yes everything still works. I noticed this after I used loopt. Then I opened and closed the maps app and gps shut down. Weird

UPDATE:

Contacted Apple and they set up an appointment at the Apple store. At the Apple store they also tried doing a full restore and still had the same issue. They then replaced the phone with a new one. They believe the GPS to be broken. If you have this issue I suggest setting up an appointment with the Genius Bar.

Reboot= no joy
full restore= no joy

Same goes for me. Just happened 2 days ago. Everything works though, so I'm stalling getting it fixed. No Apple Store nearby. I'll just keep everything backed up a little more frequently in case I need to get a new phone.

My iphone 4 just started this today. The GPS indicator is on for no reason. I have shut everything off thru task manager, rebooted, and it comes back on. Can't tell yet if the battery is suffering but I would say it would have to be. I did go in and turn off Location Services and the icon goes away. But when I turn that back on it comes on and stays.

I don't suppose anyone having this problem updated to the new version of the Weather Channel's app, did you?

I noticed this problem within minutes of updating it this morning and taking a look at it. Much faster, etc. but it grabs onto location services and won't let go. I only managed to get rid of it by shutting of the location services for the app. Then it went away. I promptly deleted it and added my voice to the rapidly growing complaints in the app store reviews for it.

Me too. The Weather Channel App. Deleted. Pointer went away. But now I have a half-drained battery b/c the GPS was on.... 😟

I also undertook the reboot machinations to no avail. Turning of location services for The Weather Channel app fixed the issue.

I had the same problem, it was TWC, The Weather Channel, after yesterday's update. Unbelievable that this is out there. I am removing TWC from my phone and it's never, ever coming back. There are too many alternatives out there that won't drain your phone for no reason at all. Very sloppy, the update shouldn't have been released until it WORKED! Enough. Here's how to fix the problem if you'd rather not delete TWC app:

From the Home screen on your iPhone:

1. tap Settings

2. tap Location Services

3. scroll down until you see TWC

If this is the source of your problem, you'll see ON in blue and to the left will be the GPS compass arrowhead icon.

4. tap the On switch to turn off Location Service for TWC.

Done.

Also, I don't know but perhaps the 3G iPad app has this problem too?

I agree about the sloppy update on TWC. Although I would love to uninstall TWC The Weather Channel app, I use about four other weather apps as well because my business depends on the weather. Thanks for the tip to turn off the locations services for TWC.
