iPad typing on it's own and moving between pages

My iPad is typing on it's own! It's "glitchy" in that it moved from one screen to the next without me touching it...like it's possessed! It moved itself to the search screen and started tying random letters, I actually see the letters on the keyboard being punched in I'm freaking out...this seems to be the mother glove...help!,, thanks

pS doesn't do it all the time, just when it wants to. Also I've cut off and on, and tried to sync with itunes

I have the same problem, and I found out what's wrong, it's not the software - restart, restore and FW upgrade will not help, if's defiantly hardware.
The best option is to replace your iPad assuming you have an apple store nearby… which I don't 😟 however I found what's causing it and how to bypass the issue almost completely 🙂
It's caused by the case pressing on the borders of the iPad, if you plan to continue using your case make sure it applies no pressure on the iPad - stretch it a little.
Then, take your iPad out of the case (the random / ghost typing will continue..) hold it on both sides, and press hard like your trying to "fold" it towards the apple icon in the back, once you do that you'll that the iPad works normally, and will keep working ok for a long time, if the random typing returns, just do the "folding" action again.
When pressing, apply strength but don't overdo it, you don't really want to fold your iPad (or break it), hope this helps…

This happened to my 3rd gen iPad & iPhone 5 at same time. Tried everything listed here then went to Apple store. They stated it was the display after paying over $300 for replacements, get home and the same thing happened. It was the charging cords I bought on eBay. Called them back to inform them to see if I could get some of my money back because they gave wrong diagnosis for problem, told me nothing they can do.

Wonder why this problem has not been solved yet. First post on this discussion is from 2010, I got my iPad 2 16GB Wifi in October 2012 in Dubai and it started moving and typing on its own JUST A MONTH AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED.

Took it to an authorized repair shop and found out the logic board / mother board was the problem and they recommended me just to scrap it and buy a new iPad - but how could I do it when it was just over a year old, used under very good care?

Wrote several times do Apple with no reply, hope they read this forum and work on a solution so none else gets it on future touch devices.

I've got a 64gig iPad 4 with retina display. Its just over a year old, and recently this weird typing stuff started. It doesn't jump pages, but it does add letters between words forcing me to go back and correct all typing. It seems to happen in mail, safari, here in the support forum. I'm using an Apple folding case since new, this unit is scratch-free and has never been dropped. All corners are protected and i'm a retired senior, this iPad sits on a desk when its not in my lap, this case has a cover too.

I'm convinced its not hardware, its software. My hardware hasn't changed in 14 months but theres been a few iOS updates. I notice the same thing happening on my iPhone 4. Had it for a couple years and its only gone screwy the past 4-6 months? Unless aliens are shooting rays at our houses LOL, i really have to say its a iOS glitch, maybe one that apple won't/can't fix.

Sorry to hear about this on such a spec'ed out item. I'm almost certain it's a hardware failure as others have said. I just went thru the same thing with my Mini- I bought it new Christmas 2012 and 10 months later, it had a faulty board that caused constant reboots- Apple replaced under warranty and 10 months later, it started into this possessed behavior. I took it back, hoping against hope that Apple would do the right thing and replace it. I know it's technically out of warranty but they admitted it was a hardware issue and that the unit was MINT condition, and they guaranteed me that they did NOT replace with refurbished equipment, so I really feel that they should give you another year warranty if they have to replace your unit in <1 year. It should reset out of their admission you got a bad unit. Because now, after 10 months, they wanted to replace it for $220 (plus tax). I declined.

I've had other phones and tablets from HTC and Samsung that lasted several years without any concerns. I feel like I'm handling my phone and ipad like fine crystal and they still die (had an iPhone 5 replaced under warranty due to faulty power button and 4 months later, the replacement got that HW issue that caused locking/resetting anytime an app accessed the camera).

So, anyone wanna buy a possessed iPad Mini cheap?

Its all in the extension cord...both my wifes iphone 5s and Ipad mini were acting glitchy and possesed when trying to do simple gestures. Turns out it only acted like this when connected through extension cords with no gound plug (3rd prong). I find it weird that the power cables dont have a ground prong but dont act weird when connected to a power strip or straight to the wall....must be a ground issue.

Stop searching and read this: it happen the same to my Ipad mini and I became crazy searching the answer. Annoying and frustrating! I allways thought it was a hacker, but it wasn't. Somehow I realized that all the problem started when I put a screen protector anti scratches on it. Since I removed it, problem fixed!!! Incredible, isn't it?

No hardware problems, no Apple Stores visits: just remove the crap to protect it and it will work again.

You're wellcome.

my daughter (8 years old) has an ipad mini, last week it starts to choose randomly letters and apps. it is out of control now. I went to Southampton apple store to ask about it. they said me that it is more than 12 months old, therefore no guarantee, they did not solve the problem, they did not find out the issue, they just offer me to buy new one. apple makes a good looking device, and this is a common problem. there are so many ipads behaving like this. apple technicians do not know what to do other than give new one if it has guarantee or sell new one. this is crazy. I have iphone, ipad 2 and ipad mini, no longer apple for me.
