Jan 23, 2016 7:02 AM in response to DarkDwarfby SC Lee,I receive an iPad mini from a friend with the following condition;
1. It is using a soft TPU flip case
2. It is with a screen protector
3. It is in the welcome screen
4. VoiceOver is on
5. Zoom is on
6. And touchscreen is possessed
Up to now, 1 to 5 are solved except for 6. Below are the steps that I've taken;
1. Remove the TPU flip case
2. Triple click on the home button to disable VoiceOver.
3. Remove the screen protector
4. Due to the possessed touchscreen & zoom function ON, it is difficult for me to complete the welcome wizard.especially when trying to type the Apple ID & password. Therefore I connected the iPad to my PC and login using iTunes.
5. Up to this stage I've successfully came to the home screen and get into settings to disable Zoom function. Touchscreen is still possessed
6. In between all steps, i did wipe the screen with a microfiber cloth sprayed with alcohol. It did help for a few seconds before getting haywire again
7. Lastly I do a reset "erase all settings and content". The touchscreen is still possessed but a bit better without the Zoom function ON.
It is considered NOT SOLVED. I notice that the touchscreen keeps trying to click by itself at the same area which is around one third of the upper screen and towards left. Yes it seems like a hardware issue. I have read DarkDwarf's suggestion many times that says "hold it on both sides, and press hard like your trying to "fold" it towards the apple icon in the back, once you do that you'll that the iPad works normally, and will keep working ok for a long time, if the random typing returns, just do the "folding" action again." but I simply couldn't understand. Please forgive my stupidity. Can anyone help me out to elaborate DarkDwarf's method? Highly appreciate

Feb 15, 2016 1:35 PM in response to DarkDwarfby CarolCat8,Thank you so much! This was driving me nuts. Taking it out of the case did the trick. Big relief to not be a problem that needs repair or replacement! I did the stretching thing on both the iPad and the case, and we'll see if it recurs. But it obviously solved the problem, so at least now I know what to do if it happens again.
And I love that my search term "iPad keyboard freaking out" led me to what I needed. :-)

Jun 26, 2016 7:53 AM in response to Ejack3by gcsheets,My iPad mini 2 started doing this a week or so ago. In some apps like evernote (but it definitely happens in other apps also, even on the home screen it will "auto-launch" apps on its own and so it is not just a single app sort of thing), at times I can actually "hover" over the keyboard for some letters (without actually touching the screen) and it actually activates the keyboard buttons and types the letters. When it starts doing that, I can then hover my hand on other areas of the screen and it "activates" links and other functionality without actually touching the screen.
I have tried some of the suggestions in this thread except for the "reset and reinstall everything" option -- nothing else has worked for me. So I will probably try the reset and reinstall and see what happens.
Does anyone know if Apple will replace the device for free once the device is out of warranty?

Jul 13, 2016 5:23 PM in response to gcsheetsby Hilchpin,I have an iPad min, it would start auto typing and changing pages much like what your is doing. I tried restarting, restoring etc. It turns out that it happens when my iPad gets hot it starts to auto type and I wasn't noticing because the case was in the way. Ditch your case, and give it a rest when it gets warm on your fingers.

Of course not! The warranty has expired.

Aug 15, 2016 12:39 PM in response to Ejack3by Snowwyn,Mine was doing random clicks too, though not all the time. I read this thread and tried cleaning the screen -- which seems to have fixed the problem. I do sometimes have residue of greasy fingers when touching the screen , so I will now be a lot more careful about that.

Aug 22, 2016 5:40 AM in response to Ejack3by iBread,So, I also have this issue. If you've ever cracked your iPad's Screen, it could be the problem. What I've started to notice is that pressure on the iPad in some place usually causes this issue to flare up. If you have a Case that Applies Pressure to the iPad that could be part of it, or if you've ever gotten water on the screen of the iPad, for isntance, I've touched my iPad's Screen while having wet hands and it starts to glitch. So, try avoiding water. Also, Clean the screen off. If you've ever had you're iPad's Screen replaces, This could be the root of your problems. iPad's screens are stuck to certain parts of an iPad, so when third party companies replace your screen it usually creates some stort of glitch. If you're like me and don't want to have to replace the iPad, just try some different things listed above, but in the end it would probably be best to replace it with a newer iPad model, or the same model.

Aug 22, 2016 5:45 AM in response to gcsheetsby iBread,Hello! I have the same issue. I'd like to replace my iPad mini but Apple thinks that I should pay for another one, full price. My Mother's iPhone 5th Generation started having this issue as well. After a month or so of this issue she called Apple Tec and they told her it was a 'System Glitch' that all of the products sometimes had. Come on. So after recieving this bit of information, you could use this to try and get it replaced for free, but Apple doesn't like to replace people's iPad's because they lose money. They could possibly.

Aug 22, 2016 6:10 AM in response to SC Leeby iBread,-Another case of iPad Hauntings-
So, my iPad Mini started acting up 6 months after I accidentally cracked the screen from corner to corner at school somehow. This happened in about October of 2015, and my screen was then replace by a guy who doesn't work for Apple, Because Apple was going to make me buy a 200 dollar new iPad, and give them mine. Nope. So as of July 2016 on a trip to visit some family, I had my iPad caseless and in my backpack's front pouch. Someone slammed my backpack down onto the cement and I knew terror had struck. My iPad was Cracked again. I immediatly started praying that my dear iPad would be okay and flung myself over to it to find that, it was only a small scrack on the top right corner that stayed on the white part of my iPad. Something that could be covered and protected by a case that I needed. After we got home I started having Issues the next month. The far left of the iPad when standing straight is dead pretty much. I can see the screen there, but the keys Q & the Capitalization Key were unable to be touched if standing straight. That was only the begging. After a week of this issue my iPad started doing things on its own. And it did creepy things. It would pull up the camera and location on a regular basis without me touching it. Creepy Right? Well it got worse. It would type random things on its own and the screen would go crazy.
I recalled how in the summer of 2014 my Mother's iPhone 5 did the same thing, so she called Apple Tec (on the home phone) and they fixed it even without her bringing it to the Apple Store somehow, but they told her it was a System Glitch that all of the Models had. What. Come on Apple. You guy's are smarter than I'll ever be. Can't you fix a System Glitch?
REASONS WHY YOU'RE IPAD IS BE HAUNTED
1. The Screen is dirty. Clean your screen off, but do not use water. Water on the surface of your iPad can make the haunting worse.
2. Pressure is being applied to the glass covering your beautiful iPad Baby. Nobody likes being pushed 24/7 and Neither does your iPad. Try removing your iPad's case and see if the haunting stops, and if so Horray, and if not, Try removing your iPad's Screen Protector.
3. There could be a 60 year old man stalking you, Hide your wife, Hide your kids.
4. If you've had your screen replace, it could be the reason your iPad is haunted.
WHAT THE HECK DO YOU DO ABOUT THIS PROBLEM.
1. Call Apple.
2. Go to an Apple store, and ask for help.
3. Try cleaning out your iPad.
4. Get a New iPad for Christmas and Sell your old iPad to Apple.
UPDATE
IT SEEMS LIKE AFTER I STARTED LISTENING TO TWENTY ONE PILOTS MY IPAD STARTED MESSING UP, IS THE GOVERNMENT MAD AT ME BECAUSE I DOWNLOADED HEATHENS?

Sep 13, 2016 6:30 AM in response to Ejack3by Iron Chef Steve,I had this exact problem and was able to fix it.
My iPad started bugging out, typing randomly and opening apps by itself. It started after I had brought it on a trip in my backpack. My pack was pretty full and I think it put some pressure on the iPad. I made sure when I packed it the screen was facing out so I wouldn't scratch it. I think it ended up bending it so it compressed the screen. Like if your belly was the screen and you stretched your back by arching over the back of a chair. That's what I think caused the issue.
Anyway, the way I fixed it was to bend my iPad slightly in the opposite way. So instead of stretching your belly by arching your back you'd now be doing a stomach crunch. I put my iPad across my thigh screen side down and pushed down gently on either side so that it bends slightly. That seemed to fix it. It's been weeks now without a problem.
Hope this helps someone.

Sep 13, 2016 6:37 AM in response to Iron Chef Steveby hdroadking1955,Well, I was able to fix mine last night - after repeatedly going bizzurk while laying in bed trying to play Sudoku, I started beating the **** thing repeatedly against my knees until I bent the crap out of it. I then proceeded, to pound it against the night stand until it parted into about 10 million pieces. I then walked over to the garbage can & tossed it. F*CKING PROBLEM SOLVED.....................
