Adding Multiple Exchange Mailboxes from the same Exchange Server

I am trying to add a second exchange mailbox from the same Exchange Server to my iOS4 iPhone 3Gs. I have my personal mailbox and need to add a helpdesk mailbox. I was able to add the mailbox using the username and password associated with that mailbox. However, when I go to check the email, it ends up being a duplicate of the first. If I then go back and forth between these mailboxes, without making any changes, I will have some mail disappear, then come back, then disappear again, etc. It seems like it's having a hard time syncing. Right now, if I click on my mailbox, it shows my email up to Wednesday. If I show the helpdesk email, it shows MY email up to Thursday. Neither one is showing all MY email and the helpdesk one is not even showing the helpdesk email. I will also occasionally get the message, "Cannot Get Mail, the Connection to the server failed."

The iPhone is iOS 4. The Exchange server is Exchange 2007.

Any ideas?

Some more information:
I noticed that the email address for the helpdesk account had changed from helpdesk@mydomain.com to dave@mydomain.com. Dave was a second email address I had on MY account (not the helpdesk account). I tried changing it back to helpdesk@mydomain.com but it would revert back again. So, I got rid of the helpdesk account on the phone and everything was good with my account. I then tried getting rid of my dave@mydomain.com address from exchange, and reconnecting the helpdesk. This time the helpdesk changed to MY primary email address. I deleted the helpdesk again, did a backup, restore to factory (with iOS4), then restored my backup. Email was working fine again, so I decided to try and add the helpdesk email again. This time, MY account showed the helpdesk email, along with the helpdesk account. This was just on my phone, it didn't change anything in on Exchange. I deleted the helpdesk account again (forgot to check which email addresses were showing for the accounts), and my account returned to normal (except that email is not syncing all the time, but that's being discussed in another forum right now).

So, anyone come up with any ideas? This would be great for me to have on my phone since I am responsible for checking the helpdesk email.

Thanks,
Dave

Are you using Exchange ActiveSync, or IMAP/POP3 from your exchange server?

Can you try setting up your primary account via ActiveSync, and the helpdesk account via IMAP/POP3?

I was having the same issue, it seemed that our ActiveSync piece on our Exchange server was seeing the device and syncing one account to all mailboxes, regardless of the account or address, like the deviceID was cached to a specific box? I don't really know how Exchange works, we have an exchange admin for that, but after setting up primary on AS and Secondary on IMAP, I was fine. Of course you'll need to have POP3/IMAP Enabled on your exchange server for that to work, so you'll need to check with an admin if you yourself don't know.

Hope that helps some. 🙂

I am having this problem as well. I am 2 clicks from asking for my money back from Apple. I run several businesses and this issue is really hamstringing my ability to work. One account is an aol account and I currently have two that are from my server hosted with Ipower. (set to Imap settings) I can see mail trying to load on the phone and then poof it just shuts the mail app completely down. The guys at the store have no idea what to do to help. If I can't add multiple boxes I'm going to have to ditch the iPhone for something that actually works! Any one have an answer without having to be a tech wiz?
