Apple Hardware Test error: 4MEM/1/40000000: 0xb78e5f18

Hi,

My iMac i5 has suddenly started showing Kernel Panic all the time, and I've now been able to run an Apple hardware Test (AHT) on it.

After 9 sec AHT stops and says there is an error named:

*4MEM/1/40000000: 0xb78e5f18*

I've with no result tried to google this technical frase.

I'd be very happy to know where to go for info on this error - and what to do now?

Contacting the local Danish Apple Service Agent when they open Monday morning, I surpose?

One (or possibly more) of your RAM sticks has gone bad.

See this thread - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=779745

Yes, call Apple on Monday and they'll replace the memory.

Note that if you have installed aftermarket memory that did not come from Apple, you should remove it yourself since it is not covered by Apple's warranty. You can test by substitution to find the bad module(s) -- remove them one at a time, optionally substituting any Apple provided memory you are not using if you have any, & if an aftermarket one is the culprit contact the vendor for a replacement (if it has a warranty that allows that) instead of Apple.
