My iphone 4G works perfectly!

I just wanted to offset some of the complaints on this board so people who are nervous about the phone will know it is a good buy. I haven't had any issues at all with my phone. No yellow screen, no reduced reception (i am using the black bumper) and no problems with the camera shutter or email operations. All my functions work perfectly, speakerphone is loud, headphones are clear, and the battery life is great. I guess my question would be am I the only person who has never had any problems with an iphone? Because this forum makes it seem like they are guaranteed to have issues when they usually dont. Just sayin...

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.6.4), iPhone 4G

rbrylawski, I too have been making it a point to engage every iPhone 4 i encounter here in LA/SoCal. Only a few of my friends have them, since they're sold out everywhere and everyone is still waiting for theirs to ship.

But out of 20 or so that i've encountered, not one has an issue with their iPhone 4, including me. I know i have spectacular AT&T service/data speeds where i live. I cannot duplicate any of the problems some have been reporting. Overall, it's a great device. It's amazing the number of features, speed and battery life it packs in such a small device.

Well, like a previous poster said, some people will only see what they want to see. If you go to the link I posted earlier where I have pictures of my iP4 versus my 3GS, you can see with your own eyes what I am experiencing. Read carefully: If I hold my iP4 the same way I've always held my 3G and 3GS phones I totally lose connection to the cell network. I don't have a very strong signal here where I live but it has never prevented my 3G phones from maintaining a connection, no matter how I hold it. If I am in a strong signal area then the reduction in signal due to touching the antenna gap isn't enough to effect my call or my data connection. This is probably why most people don't notice it. But what I'm hoping for is that there IS something unique to those phones that are affected. That would mean that there is a fix possible. The video that a previous poster invited me to see doesn't shed any light on this, since we don't know how much signal the guy had before he laid that death grip on it. What I want to see is a phone with 2-3 bars (not held) that is then held the same way that Steve Jobs holds his and it NOT lose its connection. I'm beginning to think I'll never see this.

@iZian:

Let's agree to disagree especially since you kindly alloted me some recognition of an intelligence trace on my part 🙂

I think we kinda agree on most points but have different interpretation and problem importance assessment. Here are most sticking points:

1. Does iP4 has reception problem? You: Yes, all of them. Me: Probably some. Verdict: There's no way to prove one way or the other, only anecdotal speculations.

2. Can you say that because of this problem iP4's reception ***** compared to older iPhones and competitors no mattre how you hold it? You: Unqualified YES. Me: Limited Yes but only if you are in a low signal zone AND hold it in a such a way that bridges a tiny gap. Otherwise, if held correctly, and as proven by Anandtech research (which fully corresponds to my experience) iP4 doesn't suffer more from attenuation than older iPhones and Nexus One. Moreover, at least compared to iP3, iP4 clearly shows better sensitivity. That's exactly what I see, compared to my old 3G, in real life. iP4 keeps calls where 3G will drop them (and still drops) them and in general data speeds (especially upload) are higher and more stable. Here in notorious for bad at&t coverage NYC I definitely have less connectivity issues with iP4 than with 3G and my son with his Nexus.

3. How serious is this problem? You: HUGE! Life and death situation when you need to call 911 in low signal zone. Me: LIMITED! Only if you insist on gorilla grip when you cover a tine gap on a side. If you have brain to move your pinkie if your life is on the line there's no more risk with iP4 than with most other modern smartphones. We all here in US are at the shaky hands of at&t no matter which phone 🙂

4. How outrageously buggy iP4 is? You: Yeah, baby, let's pile anything mentioned (death grip, yellow screen, proximity sensor, camera AWB under tungsten) as a same huge problem no matter scale and importance until it looks like a nice smelly FUD so that naive users won't touch iP4 with a pole. Me: Taking aside death grip problem (which as we established you think is huge and me thinks is limited) there's no indication that other problems are any more numerous and prevalent with iP4 than with competitors, especially considering that the **** thing is just 10 days on the market. If you don't trust me just look on the HTC Evo and Incredible and Nexus One forums which all are longer on the market and what was fixed by what firmware upgrade and what hack.

Btw, speaking of iP4 camera. I'm a semi-pro stock photographer with high-end gear. And on relative scale I'm really amazed by the quality of iP4 cam where it matters - resolution, contrast, day light color accuracy and low noise under deem light thanks to the incredible backlit sensor. It all these respects it's much-much better than 3GS camera or in fact any other camera phone I ever used. If you don't trust me look at many tests of iP4 cam. Usual verdict, even from Gizmodo, is that iP4 5MP cam not only better in everything but resolution against 8MP cam on EVO but even in some respects holds its own in IQ against famed Canon S90 digicam. And I'm sure Apple will fix AWB under Tungsten in firmware (with the caveat that there's no ideal solution in principle for AWB) and hopefully will introduce WB presets.

In any case I'll take iP4 cam any time versus 3GS cam. It's much easier to remove color tint than to add detail which isn't there because it was eaten by the noise.

First post from my 4. I can make my bars drop from 5-2. I kept holding, and it went back up to 4... Whatev.

I've made a few calls with no issue regarding reception or face-dialing.
No yellow splotches.
No incorrect white balance
No loose buttons
This screen.... WOW! I feel like I just got a new eyeglass prescription.

The compass is worthless. But it was worthless to me even when it worked.

Haven't tried a Bluetooth or FaceTime call yet.

Feels really solid. Impressive... Most impressive. I'm happy with mine, but don't doubt a number of folks are having real issues. Hopefully everyone gets their issues resolved or moves on to find happiness elsewhere.

"This screen.... WOW! I feel like I just got a new eyeglass prescription." ...that until you start getting scratches on it as many of us did already.
I am 100% certain that iPhone 4's screen is not as durable as 3GSs, give it another 3-4 weeks and watch the mass bringing the subject up. I too love my iPhone 4 but I fear that is a failed product and I'm still in 2 minds wether to take it back or not as I've only got a few hours left. I can see myself going back to the store and ask for a 3GS or worst my cash back. 😟
Sad....no, VERY SAD!

I think "works perfectly" is misleading if you're trying to quell someone's fears. iPhone 4 IS destined to have issues- every single one has the antenna issue, and every single one has the prox sensor issue. Some USERS don't experience those issues due to network strength in their area or the way they hold the phone. People need to be aware that this phone is fickle. It might be the perfect phone for the way you use it, but some of the issues ARE there.

My iphone 4G works perfectly!
