iPhone 4 Bluetooth Connection to Car

When I was using my 3G (with the iOS4 software) with my car's Bluetooth kit, it would automatically sync up whenever I turned the ignition on. Now, with the iPhone 4, my car doesn't automatically sync. I always have to manually initiate the connection either through the phone or the car kit. I've paired, re-paired, resetted, powered down/up, and pairing with the car on first or with the phone first and vice versa to see if it would connect automatically like the 3G but I haven't had any luck. I know this is just a convenience issue but I'm curious if anyone is having a similar problem? Or any suggestions on how I can get this to work.

I have noticed the same thing using my iphone 4 with my in car bluetooth setup. The initila connection worked as simple as with my 3g. No each time i get in the car I have to connect by going to the bluettoth screen on the phone and telling it to connect. This morning it was connected when I left for work, while I was driving it lost connection. I know this does not help solve the issue, but I would thnik this is something that is a glitch in the phone itself.

@SH.

I am sorry you are having this problem. Sure it's convenience, but it is very helpful. I, too, had this problem at first in my car...worked perfectly with 3G, but same problems with 4. Then, when I did get a connection, the audio was terrible. Before, people could hardly tell I was using the car bluetooth..now they ask me to go back to the handset.

Every car system is different and I understand that but what I had to do and what worked was that I got my old 3G phone back in and then with it in the car, I disconnected the device within the iPhone 3G, then in the car system, I had it 'remove paired phone'.

Then, I synched my 4phone from back up and then paired the phone by making the 4 discoverable and having the car system find it...

And all has been well since then.

I hope that works. I would also try calling your car manufacturer and see if there needs to be an update..I had to update my system when I got the 3G...

Otherwise, you may indeed have a defective phone.

Good luck.

With mthowell's advice, I reset my car's bluetooth settings which erased all information tied with mi 3G setup. I then re-paired my car with my iphone 4 and everything synced up right away - phonebook and everything! Then after restrating my car the connection to my phone came up right away. So far so good. We'll have to wait and see if it holds.

Same problem here. My 3G never had any issues. I have deleted all the settings for my 3G through the car's setup menu. I can pair my iPhone 4 just fine, but it loses connection while driving. The only way to get it to pair up again is to re-pair it again. It never pairs up again when I get back in the car either. For what it's worth, I am driving an Acura RDX.

I am glad it worked for you. Mine is still not working. I have wiped every phone connection I had on my car's setup menu, I have made sure my old iphone was turned off (just to make sure it wasn't interfering) and reset the bluetooth on my iphone 4. It will pair just fine, but once I shut the car off and turn it back on, the phone forgets the setting. I sat in my car yesterday for about half an hour, turning the bluetooth on and off on the phone itself and sometimes it will connect and sometimes it won't. I don't know if I should contact Apple at this point or just wait for a software fix.

It has been a couple days since my last post on this issue. As much as I thought I had resolved my issue, I have since found that it is not totally fixed. I am finding that my vehicle (09 Audi A4)is finding the phone or should I say the phone is finding the car signal when the car is turned on, however I do notice the bluetooth signal will weaken and then drop completely whil driving. This does not happen every time, but frequently enough to raise a concern.
I am seeing I am not alone with this issue but have not seen a large enough response to see any fixes from Apple Corp. coming any time soon.
If anyone has some better fix ideas please pass them along.
Thank you.

My god yes! Huge issue with bluetooth and my 08 Acura MDX. I can't hold it because of proximity sensor and antenna issues and can't consistently connect to the car via Bluetooth.

My iPhone 3G was flawless.

Unless a software fix comes out quickly I will have to return the iPhone 4 and go back to the 3G. Except for being a phone the iPhone 4 Is fantastic.

I have iPhone4 and Parrot 9300 (or maybe 9200), anyway, it connects to my phone just fine and syncs contact etc etc. I can even make and receive calls OK too, the issue I have is that I used to play music via bluetooth or pipe the directions from TomTom (on iPhone) and now this no longer works (used to work on my 3G, has never worked on iPhone4).

Anyone know what Im doing wrong? I assume Apples Bluetooth type no longer supports music streaming, but thats a bit of an oversight!!!

DOES ANYONE FROM APPLE READ THESE? I have a 2007 Jaguar XK for which with my 3G phone and the previous OS it was fine.

I loaded the 4.0 and subsequently the 4.0.1 iOS and now the car cannot "find" the bluetooth phone. I have unloaded, reloaded both the car and the phone's systems.

My wife's Motorola Razr was never linked to my car; we did that this morning and it paired, etc. without a hitch. I then deleted it and tried again with my wonderful 4.0.1 upgrade on my 3G phone and the car can't find it.

WILL APPLE PLEASE HELP BY LOOKING INTO THIS SINCE SO MANY FOLKS ARE HAVING THE ISSUE...MAYBE CHECK THE AFFECT ON NON-UPGRADED PARTS OF THE SYSTEM TO MAKE SURE THEY DON'T GET SCREWED UP BEFORE OFFERING NON-REVERSIBLE UPGRADES.

Thanks in advance if anyone is listening...
