FIX FOR: iPhone 4 battery draining fast, phone running hot

correction...after i posted my note, it heated up & rapidly went flat again. I just had it swapped for a new one. the guy at the apple store blamed it on exchange, but in the same breath, said i could swap it if i wanted. at least he was nice enough to humor me.

Bet your computer runs Windows as well. I bet you have anti-virus software and accept this as being normal. I bet you think its normal resetting everytime it freezes. I bet you j...ust put up with it cus you dont know any different. Its not your fault but hopefully you will see the light one day."
Right mate, here are my responses
-In my 10 years in IT I've only had one or two config issues with Blackberry, which have been the fault of the networks every time
-The interface isn't as 'pretty' as an iPhone but its a far better business e-mail tool than an iPhone when using both Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes - which is how 90% of the business world work
- Again 90% of the business world (and home users actually) run Windows, its simply cheaper than Macs and therefore was always going to win.
- Yes, a windows computer will have anti-virus. As it is far more widely used its worth writing malicious software that may be able to attack 90% of the worlds computers. - Nothing wrong with resetting when freezing, I bet you think its normal paying three times the price for a screen just because it has a piece of fruit etched on it. I bet you think its normal having to buy specific adapters to make your laptop work with any standard display input etc etc
- I bet you spout this rubbish anytime anyone mentions Windows cus you don't know any different
- Its not your fault but hopefully you will think before speaking one day

Sorry I wasnt meant to upset you. Carry on using your Blackberry, nobody is stopping you. Before I respond I would like to mention that I was a windows developer for 15 years.

"90% of the world uses windows", where did you get that from? Are you talking about home PC's only or have you neglected the fact them Microsoft hold a minority in servers (where security is essential)? Also cheap PC's are pre-loaded with windows and people are forced into using it.

Cheaper, I dont think so. Cheaper to buy yes but lost time over a five year period plus all the expensive software you purchase in that time, I disagree.

You say that windows is "far more widely used so its worth writing malicious software for".. You claim to be an IT expert but you sadly lack knowledge with that statement. On a Mac or Linux you have to specifically instruct you machine to install the malicious software (just like your link described). On windows you only have to visit a website and it happens in automatically.

Finally on windows a virus can propagate on its own while you use your PC. On a mac or linux it cannot because the permissions are deep in the unix structure not a bolt on like windows. Again you would have to instruct your machine to install an instance each time. Instruct it to do so once yes, second time you are stupid, third time you are really stupid. Ive seen thousands of instances of the same virus on windows through no fault of the user.

I too work in IT, the ratio of work load maintaining windows PC's vs non-windows is at least 95%. This keeps me in work at least so may windows stay for that reason alone.

One last thing I really hate about windows is networking. Again this is another bolt on. While things are perfect it works. Temporary drop in network connection and they break, Another call to the IT department! Usually have to either double click a network drive or restart the PC. My MAC uptime is 300 days now, since the last power cut.

just fixed my iPhone 4 battery drain issue, which suddenly appeared a couples of days ago (just before iOS5 update). Battery was losing 20% power per hour or so.

not exactly sure which action did the trick:

- reset netwerk setting (did a benm.at download for tethering)

- removed (followed by reboot device) and added exchange account

- removed Wordfeud app (don't think this was the issue, because still errors in app right now, but no drain)

Now i can use my iphone for about 1,5-2 days again (push mail, frequent use of apps and internet, no bluetooth)

Not sure what caused this, but I just began experiencing it after upgrading to iOS 5, then restoring my iPhone 4 S from iCloud yesterday. I knew something was wrong because I was getting 3-4 hours battery on my brand new 4 S. I'm confident this has fixed the issue. Like I said, not certain the cuase. iOS upgrade? Migrating to iCloud? Restoring from iCloud to 4 S?

Thanks. I think you missed something youself? I wrote "I'm confident this has fixed my issue". As in I read the entire thread, and performed the funtions recommended. The reason I wrote what I wrote was an effort to help others recently upgrading to iOS 5 or the iPhone 4 S.

Bottom line, the suggestions in this thread fixed my problem. Thanks...

EVERYONE TRY HARD RESETTING YOUR PHONES BEFORE POSTING HERE.

IT WORKED FOR ME LIKE IT HAS FOR EVERYONE ELSE WHO TRIED IT.

STOP POSTING THAT YOU HAVE THE PROBLEM TOO SO THAT EVERYONE CAN SEE THAT THEY NEED TO HARD RESET THEIR PHONE AND PEOPLE CAN STOP WASTING THEIR TIME.

TO HARD RESET:

• HOLD DOWN HOME AND POWER BUTTONS SIMULTANEOUSLY FOR 10 SECONDS

• THE PHONE SHUTS ITSELF DOWN (IGNORE THE NORMAL PROMPT TO TURN IT OFF)

• ONCE IT SHUTS ITSELF DOWN, LET GO OF THE BUTTONS, IT'LL HARD RESET ON IT'S OWN.

IT WORKS!

Sounds like you have a bad battery, no product is perfect, even batteries, they can go bad VERY easily.

I'd get on calling Apple IMMEDIATELY if you want a NEW replacement and not a factory refurbished one, you know, before those 100's of thousands of people do the same thing and Apple decides to replace with a better battery and send out those returned phones.

EVERY company does it, even Apple.

2% per 35 minutes in stanby status. I just wanna fix it, so I up to 5.0.1 and now I lost my network. restore again, restart iphone, restart hardware... bla bla... it doesn't work.

Honestly, I love apple's product, I had my iphone 4. it works well! But, now my iphone 4s has bad bad problem. I want a replacement!

I am living in Hanoi, Vietnam. In hanoi, we have no app store. I bought iphone 4s at Paris. So, can you help me that ask apple how to replace it or how to fix this problem?

That's how Apple does it, they ship products. I did it with my 3GS when it had problems, they shipped it to me. I did it 10 years ago with one of my Apple computers and they shipped me a new one.

They do it the same REGARDLESS of the product.

Call Apple's Support lines. You just bought the phone, I'd get on it FAST if I were you.

I was having the same problem immediately after upgrading to IOS 5.1. All I had to do was change my email setting to manual and the problem was solved.

Hi everyone,

apparently when I am sending SMSes my iPhone 4 battery drops by 1% gradually in front of me. There was one night I was sms-ing for a while, the phone dropped form 88% to 87%, 87% to 86% and so on. When I was done sms-ing it was 74%. I have Wi-Fi and 3G switched OFF, NO EMAIL accounts on my phone, Notifications and Location Services turned off. However, my phone only loses 2% or occasionally 3% overnight (i.e. I am asleep and no one is using) which I supposed is normal behaviour.

Sometimes if I leave my phone untouched for a few hours(I do not keep track of how many hours, but I supposed for 1 or 2 hours or even 3 hours), the battery drops 1% or 2%.

So my questions are:

1)Is it normal to have see the phone battery dropping by 1% right in front of your eyes every minute or so while sms-ing??

2)Is it normal to lose 1% to 2% battery when you do not touch it for a while?

3)What can I do about the issue of phone battery dropping every 1%?

I did a hard reset(hold the sleep/wake button and home button until apple logo appeared) and also tried letting the battery die and then charge it to 100%. The behaviour is still the same.
