recording electric distorted guitars

Is anyone have any luck with the pedal board stock plugins
to record a good sounding distorted guitars?

NOTE: I just noticed another thread after posting this talking about the same topic...

I guess I will expand on my question then....

If I used the RAWK plugin from the pedal board, what is some
tricks/tips to thicken up the sound and make it sound fatter.....

Hey

try dialing tones with a lil more bass in them, and use logic's exciter to bring in some
more top end.

Using the drive, pedalboard EQ and the exciter you can generally get some decent enough tones.

Also, look at IK Multimedia's Amplitube, Amplitube 2 and Amplitube Metal. All make a fairly good noise. Don't be disheartened if your tones are sounding s**t. It can take a while to really tweak the tones into sounding thier best. Although you can't beat an amp and an SM57.

Hope this helps.

Something I've done with good results is dupe the track, pan one to (eg) 30 left, the other to 40 right, and bus 20% - 50% of one track to an aux with a good plate reverb (I prefer UAD's EMT Plate 140). I've also found that less is more with stompbox and FX. I prefer NI's Guitar Rig for Marshall/Orange emulations and Peavey's Revalver for Fendery twang and Vox jangle, and I'll generally use at the most a head/cab and either a compresser or a fuzz. Unlimited stomp boxery can lead to unproductive FX creep.
