iPhone 4/iOS 4 bluetooth muffled on other end

i had better luck with my blueantq2 BEFORE the updated 4.1

did yours work well with that previous version? does anyone know how to revert back to that version? 4.0.1

i still have the file but when i do a "shift, update" and select the file it gives me an error and wont let me. thanks

This is insane that my five year old phone gets far better blue tooth reception than my new iphone 4. A phone is too important and too necessary to have all these problems. The iphone may get reasonable blue tooth reception at times, but far too often no one can hear me on the other end, and on my end very loud white noise. People will be able to identify the crappy connection as an iphone4 pretty soon. Why doesn't someone take responsibility for this **** up and do something about it, instead of leaving us with half *** phones?

OK people, BEFORE you drop your iphone into the blender in despair, at least try this. After the 4.1 upgrade, try the "reset all settings" function and then re-pair the bluetooth device. This (so far) has fixed the problem with my blueant2 and also for my son and his new Toyota (inbuilt bluetooth system).
Worth a try. The test calls to my answering machine are really conclusive; from muffled garble to a much sharper and more clear voice transmission. Good luck.......

PS. After the "reset all settings" procedure, I had a couple of mysterious bluetooth devices showing (ie they listed with weird numerical names). I deleted them (via the "forget" tab) before I re-paired my blueant. I have no idea if that is/was important, but add it here just in case.

Yes, but a "reset all settings" and "forget this device" should only be necessary for those who restored from a backup when going from 4.0.x to 4.1. I upgraded and set it up as a new phone, so there should be nothing to "reset". 4.1 + iPhone 4 = still significantly worse than iPhone 3G and 3.x.

i 100% agree with you, it doesnt make sense.....but i tried it and 2 hours talk time since....so far so good...

I have a Bluetooth Parrot in car kit, and when a call comes in I get the "you are in a tunnel" response from the person calling me, so I call them back and it seems to be better, I just hope that 4.1 fixes this, but looking at the forums, this isn't going to be the case.

Um, you realize 4.1 is out, right?

Yes I know 4.1 is out but i'm JB and need base band unlock, so can't upgrade yet.

Fingers crossed 4.1 fixes the issues? any confirmations from anyone?

Opinions are mixed. Depends on the issues you are having I guess. I haven't had a complaint of "muffled" (pillow over my face) sound after a week (40+ phone calls for work), so that appears to be fixed. However, the headset still loses it's connection to the phone (as does the Bluetooth in my car) fairly often. I also apparently sound like a cyborg if I go more than 10-15 feet from the phone. These things almost never happened with my iPhone 3G on 3.x software.

Thanks for the input, very useful, as my car kit seems to be pretty stable (not loosing connection etc..) i'm hoping that 4.1 will fix the muffled / in a tunnel issue. 🙂

If you have a BlueantQ2 and you already updated your Q2 to it's latest firmware 1.1 you need to downgrade to the original 1.0 firmware it had on it when you purchased the unit. If the Q2 will not let you down grade or if you have the originial software it came with then.

Remove the Q2 from your iPhone 4
Reset the Q2 by holding down all 3 buttons vol+ vol- & answer button at the exact time.
Power down and power up your Iphone 4 and repair Q2 and you should be fine.

If you have upgraded to Q2 1.1 and your having a problem downgraded the firmware return it to AT&T for an exchange for a new Q2 with the old original software and it will work perfect with the Iphone4 4.1. Even the the receipt reads 30 days they will still exchange if you tell them you're getting static.

Sadly, my earlier optimism has turned to despair!

The dreaded muffled sound/cyborg voice problems have returned, albeit intermittently, with my Voyager Pro.

What do we do now?

Bingo ... that's exactly the problem I'm having. When I accept an incoming call using the Bluetooth headset (a Plantronics 520 in my case), the iPhone uses its internal mic rather than the headset's mic.
