iPhone 4/iOS 4 bluetooth muffled on other end

I talk on my iphone4 usually 5-6 hours per day. I have 3 samsung and 2 motorola bluetooth headsets. I always have a spare headset with me. I never had a problem talking to people on my original iphone with any of these headsets. Since buying the iphone 4 (on launch date) I have nothing but problems with people on other end saying they can't hear me and also loss of sync with handset from 6-10 ft away (should be able to go 30ft). I have to reboot iphone constantly to get btooth working properly. Obviously this is annoying and unacceptable. My gut instinct is that this is a harware problem but I have not been able to find a definitive answer anywhere. If problem persists, iphone4 is going back to Apple store.

Same issue here. Constant reconnects and garbled audio on Plaintronics Pro Only good thing is I see lots of people with similar problem which means fix will be a priority and likely come soon

I contacted support this morning after reading rogerdewhite's message to see if simple replacement was a known solution. Apparently is is NOT.

I'll look forward to further reports to confirm that the problem has been eliminated. Otherwise I'll still be holding out for iOS 4.1!

Very interested in the outcome of this as my Plantronic headset stopped working (became muted/muffled) after installing OS 4 on my old 3G, and remains FUBAR now that I've upgraded to an iPhone 4 from 3G backup. (sigh—early adoption blues).

Uhhh...PROBLEM NOT COMPLETELY SOLVED. Since i got my phone replaced my BT connections are stable and sound good on my end. HOWEVER, people i call have mixed reviews on the call quality. Some say it's crap, others say it's OK. Everyone says that it sounds better when i switch from BT to the handset or speakerphone.

This is really starting to pi$$ me off.

Please let us know if the new Iphone 4 has solved the issue as soon as you know. Then we will all know if it is the iPhone or the software that will help everyone. I have had the same problem with all Bluetooth headsets Jawbone Icon Motorola h17 Motorola h9 and Plantronics. apple wants me to get a new phone will that solve the problem again if anyone who reads this gets a new iPhone 4 and that solves the problem please let us know. I exchanged my phone a little over & week ago and so far so good. I hope the problem doesn't return.

Do you really think replacing the phone solved the problem? Which Bluetooth headset are you using?

Same problem. Motorola stereo headset. Can't use it the quality is so bad.

I have the same issue with my iPHone4 32GB, since I got my iPhone4 people are having a hard time hearing me on my bluetooth headset. I have since bought three other types, all with the same problem. I also noticed my range went down to 5 feet. I just got a second iPhone4 a week ago and it has a range of 30+ feet and no garbled sound. Taking my iPhone4 back for a warranty replacement - convinced it's the phone! BTW: same headset I used for my 3GS works great on my wifes iPhone4 - it's not the headsets.

I just updated my 3GS and was happy that my shiny 1 year old Sony Ericsson HBH-IS800 volume can now be controlled. I was horrified however when I made a call and the headset was buzzing so badly that the other party couldn't hear me.

No it was not the headset becase I tried them on my Wifes Nokia cel and was clear as a sunny day in Cali..

What else can possibly go wrong ?

Please Apple let's get it right for a change.

I swapped my iphone4 today for a brand new one I will give you all an update in the next 48 hours to see if there are any problems with the Bluetooth anymore. I really hope it was the phone and not the software.

yes, seems like the iPhone 4 is having the same issues as this 2yr old post which relates to the iPhone 3G.. However, I was on an iPhone 3G before the iPhone 4 and using the same bluetooth, i had no issues on the 3G and (some) issues now on the 4. interesting.. :-/

bought my brother an iPhone 4 and everyday i have issues as he uses a bluetooth (Plantronics Voyager Pro) to talk on it.. VERY-VERY muffled sound quality.. i told him about it, told him to "RESET NETWORK SETTINGS", and for the rest of that day everything seemed fine. thinking it was the bluetooth, he went and exchanged it for a brand new one (same model Plantronics...) he never had sound quality problems with his previous phone and his bluetooth.

a week later, i bought myself an iPhone 4.. a lil relieved i'm not having as bad of signal/bars loss / antenna issues as i was expecting-after experiencing such issues while playing with the display phones in the apple store.. however, i (have the same model Plantronics Voyager Pro) am having the same issues of muffled sound quality while utilizing my bluetooth (while holding and especially NOT holding the phone).. @first i figured, well the bluetooth antenna is wrapped around the phone, maybe that's it? BUTT:i'm using the bumper and most of the time i'm not even holding the phone.. tonight i was talking on my bluetooth and after a nice 30min convo, the sound quality went bad!.. SMH :-/.. AGAIN, i thought it was my bluetooth.. so, i have another line/service/phone, i made the call on that phone and everything was perfectly fine! ughhh!!!... after talking for 5min, i made the call from the iphone to test it out and the sound quality was ok, again.. SMH!!!.. this is totally NOT ACCEPTABLE!.. will give the software update a chance!, if it doesn't come w/in 30days, or if it doesn't fix these serious issues, (so sad to say, but) RETURN!!!!

other than these serious issues, the iPhone 4 is soooo smokin' fast, i luv it! please please please, Apple, iPhone 4-don't fail me NOW!!!!!!
