iPhone 4/iOS 4 bluetooth muffled on other end

I don't know if it's the phone or the OS, but my headset worked fine with my iPhone 2g. On my new iPhone 4, every bluetooth headset I use connects fine and I can hear the caller perfect. Except, they say it sounds like there's a pillow over my mouth when I talk. To the point of not even recognizing what I say. I tried calling the house, and I can barely hear myself, and it will cut in and out. Anyone else getting this issue?

Having same problem. Have '08 TaurusX & the contacts won't sync. Says "no entries" for my phone book. I tried using BT Audio & couldn't get the sound. The phone works but can't function hands free on outgoing calls. I'm with everyone else, this is very annoying! However, I feel better now knowing I'm not the only one experiencing this problem. I drove to the dealership to ask questions & was told they would need to put it in the shop & have a radio specialist look at it?? Please!

I am also having this same issue on my new iphone 4. It's not pairing with my car's hands free bluetooth as reliable as my iphone 3gs did and I'm also getting the same muffled sound outbound, but I can hear the person talking to me fine.

Re-paired my iphone with my car and also rebooting my phone seems to help, but this is really not an acceptable fix.

I contacted Apple Technical Support about the problem this morning and the lady suggested that I do a restore on my phone. I explained to her that I've already done that, which is insane IMO considering I just got the phone Thursday. After being on hold for several minutes, she came back to the phone to tell me that she spoke w/ a supervisor and he stated that I need to have the phone replaced (keep in mind that this was AFTER I explained to them that I'm not the only one having this problem). I'd hate to exchange this phone, reload all the apps on my phone, and set up the folders again only to have the EXACT problem!

I am having the same issue with my iPhone 4 32GB as everyone here. I have paired my iPhone with 2 Bt headsets that worked perfect fine on my old 32GB 3GS, now the audio is horrible on my caller's end. I have a Jawbone 2 and a Plantronics Discovery 655, both pair ok with the iPhone 4. It appears that when I answer a call with the headset or when I initiate a call with the headset the audio is horrible. I have had some success with the following steps: 1. Make or answer the call from the phone then 2. Turn off and then on my Bt headset and 3. Transfer the call to the Bt headset.

Anyone else tried doing this and have any success?

I'm having the same problem on the iPhone 4 and a plantonics headset. What is strange is that the muffled sound problem mainly happens only when calling a friend also on the new iPhone. He has the same problem when he calls me on his bluethooth I can't hear him. So add two more users both having muffled Bluetooth problems. I traded in my 3GS or I would be looking to take this back.

I'm having the exact same problems as everyone else. iPhone 3GS worked great with my bluetooth headset, and with the iPhone 4 the person I'm talking to frequently has trouble understanding me, complaining it sounds like I'm speaking in a tunnel, or a tin can.

Another thing I've noticed is that if I walk more than ten feet away from the phone, it begins cutting out on them, and if I walk more than about 30 feet away, the iPhone automatically disconnects my headset.

Anyone else notice these things too?

JHawkZZ,

Im having the same issues in your second paragraph... except my phone is sitting on a cradle, in my car, 5 feet away from me sitting idle and it will just randomly disconnect and reconnect every 5 minutes. I know this because the bluetooth icon goes dim and sometimes the headset will beep in my ear letting me know its lost the phone. UGH! Frustrating!

Hello everyone I called Apple Tech Support this evening and the tech I spoke with said that he had not heard about this issue from any one else, he also said that there were apparently no other existing support inquiries for this Bluetooth issue. I would highly recommend that you guys all create a support request with Apple Support on their website or over the phone so that they have documented cases of the issue which hopefully will guarantee a fix soon or later.
