I cannot get my iPhone 4 to show up in iTunes anymore. It worked the first time, as I have music and pictures on it. I'm running windows vista and itunes 9.2. I've reset the phone. Restarted the computer. Uninstalled itunes and reinstalled it. Please help. Very frustrating.
Thanks, Chris
Disconnect the iPhone from the computer.
Close all running programs on the computer.
Create a new user with Admin privileges on the computer.
Log out of the original user.
Log in to the newly created user.
Install iTunes on the new user.
Attached your iPhone.
iTunes should now see your phone.
Eject your iPhone from iTunes.
Close iTunes.
Log off the newly created user.
Log in to the original user.
Launch iTunes.
Connect iPhone.
This didn't work for me. It is still showing as a digital camera. I have reinstalled the driver several times and downloaded the usbappl.sys file and tried with no luck. I'm stumped right now.
This worked the first time but now when I tried to sync my phone it didn't show up in iTunes again.
I really don't want to create a new user each time I sync my phone.
There should be another solution.
Thanks.
I'm having the same problem as well. iPhone 4 running iOS 4.1 beta 3. The phone comes up in Image Capture, but not in iTunes. I tried the new account approach as well, but no luck.
The computer is obviously recognising the iPhone as being plugged in, but iTunes is not. It definitely worked when I first installed iTunes 10 because I recall checking to see if the official iOS 4.1 was available.
this is what you do
1.plug your iphone into your computer.
2. turn off the iphone but keep it plugged in and itunes open.
3. hold the home and power buttons for 10 seconds.
4. let go of power but keep holding home untill you hear a click and your iphone will appear in recovery mode.
5. restore from backup form then.
Ok, I've solved it for me without having to reset and/or restore my phone.
I connected my iPhone to another Mac that has my iTunes account configured and it came up as per normal, so I figure it's a problem with iTunes on my iMac rather than with the phone itself.
I then deleted iTunes.app from the Applications directory. Deleted the iTunes folder from ~/Library and then deleted all the files I could under ~/Library/Preferences with iTunes in the filename (using spotlight in the Finder window). Finally, I killed off the "iTunes Helper" process in Activity Monitor. Then emptied the trash. At this point, iTunes was gone. (Note: my iTunes library remains unchanged under my ~/Music directory)
I then downloaded iTunes 10 from the apple website and installed it from scratch. The next time I ran iTunes my phone came back up. My library is fine too.
