iPhone 4 glass on back

The back is the easiest thing to replace according to the tear down at iFixIt:

But I suspect the cost to fix it will e $199 at Apple. Might get it done cheaper elsewhere, though.

Day five and the phone slipped from my hand, hit the top of my shoe, bounced and landed on the concrete driveway…bottom left back corner cracked from one side to the other. I must have dropped my 3G a dozen times and my daughter helping with another dozen and it never cracked! That’s some fantastic high grade glass!

I’m sick to my stomach!

Its a phone, get a grip

It's potentially $600 hard earned dollars. He has a right to be upset.

I've just got my iphone and i'd feel sick having to pay out to get it fixed when I've just payed a huge amount to get the thing.

You got that right BigDaveS123...a grip is what I needed! Thing is, I hate trashing anything new and a 32GB $300 phone is no exception. I'll live though! Deep sigh!

Check with your credit card company. Almost all of them have some accidental damage protection plan. Mine covers me for 90 days after purchase against pretty much everything.

Check with iResq. They do repairs too and are extremely quick about getting merch back to people. I think they have a 24 hour service from once they receive the iPhone.

$169 seems pretty high considering the iphone 4 is only $187 in total parts. Sure, Apple gets direct from manufacturer prices and maybe bulk discounts but $169 just for the back panel still seems quite high to me.

hey i bought a rear glass panel (not full housing). has anyone tried to remove the glass panel from its frame and use the replacement glass panel yet? i want to know how to do this or if apple can do this for me or any cell phone repair place.

My only concern is if the OP replaces the glass without going through Apple, will the warranty be voided?
