iPhone 4G - camera won't work

My brand new iPhone 4G camera function doesn't work. It was fine for about a day and now when you press the camera button it goes to that app and the "virtual shutter" doesn't open. That means you can't take any pictures or video. All my old pictures and video are viewable but nothing new can be taken.

custom built, Windows XP

Mine did this three times, did a hard reset, which resolved issue, must be a software issue

I agree with the first guy who wrote about his camera, mine was doing the same thing. It got to the point where it was not working at all. I did what the second guy wrote (a hard reset). For those of you who don't know how to do it, "hold**" the "POWER BUTTON" and the"HOME BUTTON" at the same time. Continue "Holding" them until you see the Apple Logo

Had the same problem, tried hard and soft resets to no avail. Made a genius appointment and they gave me a brand new phone on the spot.
