White Balance on iPhone 4

Are you taking about the display being a little yellow or a tint darker than other iPhone 4? Of you are I'm getting that too.

If you're talking about the camera, then that's pretty much normal for an auto-white balance camera. Even professional cameras have difficulty with white balance - it's why they have an option of setting their own white balance, for instance when pointed at a sheet of white paper.

I noticed exactly the same problem.

The problem comes from the back camera because if you take the same picture with the front camera in the same lighting condition you will not have this "yellow" problem.

I hope it will be fixed by a white balance setting in the Camera app or an iOS upgrade...

Same problem. I noticed that if there is ANYTHING blue in the frame, the back camera white balance goes completely off into the yellow/orange zone.

you folks are not alone. I too have the same problem. the camera works best with sunlight... but with flourescent lighting, totally yellow. an operator told me to restore my phone back to factory settings to rule out if it is a hardware problem. unfortunately, after the restore, the quality is still yellow under flourescent lighting. is this normal for the phone, what should i do. help!

Yes, all Iphone4's have this problem. In fact I returned one because of a really warm white balance in both outdoors & indoors. The second one has good color outside but much too warm inside under tungsten lighting.

This is somewhat common to many digital cameras under indoor lighting, but I think the IPhone4 has this issue to a much greater extent. I even tried white balancing indoors with a white piece of paper while touching the screen where the paper was. The paper became relatively white, but the rest of the frame was still too yellow.

I would think this is a relatively easy software fix. Most reviews on the phone have mentioned this prolem.

Yep, noticed that as soon as I got my phone. Just another bug on this increasingly annoying phone. Compared the camera on my i4 to my 3GS (both on iOS4), and the 3GS shows no signs of yellow tint in the camera app or shot photos. Did anyone at Apple do any QC these phones? Amazing...

My my, so sensitive. So yours has perfect white balance without any yellow cast when taking still shots under indoor, household tungsten (regular light bulbs) lighting? I'd love to see some of those shots.

Yes, I'm very frustrated too, the camera white balance under tungsten light is really bad, burns all colors with Yellow, looks like they have issues with auto balance or filter in the lens, I hope can be solved with software, otherwise Phone camera is useless...

I am also having the severe white balance problem. I hope the next update addresses this issue. My camera is useless until a fix. I am confused on how this could have slipped by in the first place.

Wrong and right. The white balance in auto should be an average color temperature of the available light, either natural or artificial. Most phones dont do a great job but i've never had a problem like this. Fortunately, a firmware update will definitely take care of this issue. The Question? How long will it take apple to get it done and how will it work with different models? Could be a while. : (

They'll just tell us we're holding it wrong...

I have the yellow picture issue as well. Outdoor pictures are incredible! Indoor w/ flash are DEFINITELY yellow, and seem to be worse if there are browns, tans, yellows, etc. in the room.

are you guys talking about the display in general or just photos?

my girlfriends display has a dimmer yellow tinge compared to mine when you hold them side by side. we are sending it back to apple to get replaced as ive heard its a fault!!
