Can I play a slideshow of photos stored on an external hard drive?

I have so many photos on iphoto that is bogging down my hard drive. I have an external drive with time machine, and I use a portable drive to back up everything periodically (using SuperDuper!).

I frequently like to slide show all of my 9,000 photos. If I remove some of these photos onto an external hard drive to free up space, can I still play the slide show directly from that external hard drive (without importing them back onto the internal hard drive)?

Mac OS X (10.5.8)

You can move all or part of your Photos to an external drive:

1. Quit iPhoto

2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.

3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.

4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
