I have done what each and every one of you guys has suggested and it still won't work! I deleted the backup folder... No go.. Deleted pictures from up to a month before my recent sync... No go...

My last backup as per icloud was 12/7/13 and I'm guessing I have been having problems since then. No matter what I do, I can't get it to back up to iCloud or the computer!!!

My phone is acting up and now I might need a new one and I need to back up my stuff.

Has anybody found something else that works?

Jessica

Thanks!!!!

Hi Jessica,

I know you mentioned you've tried everything but just to confirm did you run "netsh winsock reset" command after deleting the backup folder? (i.e. if you have a windows pc)

If it still didnt work, I would sugest trying a different computer to back up (work, friends etc) as your phone is acting up.

Or last option would be to back up your contacts, calendar, notes to icloud. You can get the apps and songs from your iTunes account anyways.

Thanks -

DK

I am using an iMac. I have not tried using another computer yet. I have a really old macbook with an older operating system. I wasn't sure if you could perform a backup to another computer.

I did delete everything in the backup folder but to no avail.

Right now, it's my SIM card that is acting up. I have absolutely no service. Before I take my phone in to be fixed, I wanted to back it up just in case. But that has not been able to happen since 12/7 for some reason.

I had a corrupt .MOV file. Deleting it was ALL I have to do to fix all the backing up errors of my iPhone 4 (iOS 4.2.1*) through iTunes 11.1.3.

ONE EXTRA TIP I can offer:
I also wanted to backup all my iPhone pics into an unencrypted folder so I used Mac OS 10.9 (Mavericks) baked-in 'Image Capture.app'. Just spotlight the .app, open it, plug in your phone, select your device from the left column, select the pics to import to your Mac (or choose Import All) and where to put the files. If you get an error on some .jpg or .mov file(s) THAT is your problem; delete it within your phone. All successfully imported files via 'Image Capture.app' will be denoted by a green-checked bubble icon on each file's thumbnail; you can also varify by using 'Finder.app' to see that there waiting for you in the folder you told 'Image Capture.app' to save them in of coarse.

* Yup, I've been putting up with it being corrupt since Sept. 2011 when I tried to upgrade my iOS 4.2.1 to iOS 5. Apple Geniouses didn't even know why it was doing that.

Hey, had this problem myself.b

I managed to fix it by ensuring my computer hard drive had enough free space for the backup to duplicate itself (for some reason when iTunes restores a back up it does this)

Hope this helps someone 🙂

To all of those who have tried everything above, and could not find success, try this one. It seems stupid, and repetitive, but basically what happens is that the Mac OS and iTunes get confused with permissions. (Read: Us humans mess them up.)

MAC USERS ONLY

So, let's reset the permissions to the Macintosh HD:

  1. Quit iTunes
  2. Open Finder
  3. In the toolbar select Go > Computer
  4. Right-Click "Macintosh HD" and select "Get Info"
  5. On the very bottom right of this window there should be a small gold lock, make sure to click and enter your Administrator Password to unlock
  6. Look towards the bottom under "Sharing & Permissions"
  7. The first Name on the left-hand side should say "Your Name (Me)"
  8. Under "Privilege" to the the right, it should say "Read & Write"
  9. Select the little arrows next to "Read & Write" and select "Read Only"
  10. Then, click it again, and select "Read & Write"
  11. Close
  12. Open iTunes
  13. Select Backup to Computer
  14. Voala!

Citing a 45 minute call with Apple support this morning, going through multiple folks until someone had the trick. Big thanks to Kathie!
