Push off - still getting email ???

Here's a head scratcher. I have push email notifications off, yet I'm still getting push email. Fetch setting are on "manual." My phone is just sitting next to me and then "ping' - I have email. This happening to anyone else? Yahoo is my main account, but that shouldn't matter.

I thought it was a bug with the new multitasking feature at first, meaning if you change your email settings throughout the day, you have to close the settings icon in the multitasking queue or it will remember the old settings. But this morning when I turned my phone on (I shut mine off every night) I never touched the settings (no push - manual fetch) and I only manually fetched my email once. Then, without even touching my phone, several minutes later I got a push email. I checked the settings and everything is still off. Please post if you're experiencing this. I only got to mess with iOS4 on my 3Gs for 3 days before I traded it in, but I don't remember this being an issue. Why just with iPhone 4?

This was happening to me and my husband on our 3G models as well... way before iOS 4. It would only happen every once in a while after we had completed a phone call, checking voicemail, and sometimes after receiving a text message. After hanging up from the call or whatnot, there they were, new emails pushed to the phone and our push was off, and fetch was set to manual. Never was too big of an issue, so we just lived with it. I've since "upgraded" to the 4 and restored it from a backup of my 3G. Same thing happened last night after checking a voicemail... new emails were pushed from my google account. Anyone know of a fix other than restoring the phone? I would like to keep my data and settings.

Make sure Mail isn't open in the background. If it is it will be fetching mail fairly frequently. At least it is on my phone. (double click the home button, if the Mail appis open then hold down the icon until it starts to shake and press the close icon)

This is annoying me, so could you test to see if it is happening on your phones too please?!

For me the problem is that Mail doesn't push if the Mail app is open as it is fetching. Hopefully this is a bug and will be fixed soon!

Well I got impatient and restored my phone as a new phone, and so far so good. I believe adding my 3Gs backup to my iPhone 4 was causing more than one problem, so I was eager to start fresh. Pity that Apple didn't see 3Gs backups to iOS4 as being a problem. I learned a lot about backing up safari bookmarks and contacts when restoring as new, so I feel it was worth it. It would be nice if Apple issued a fix for those that don't to restore as new, but the next update seemed to focus so much on antenna issues as a priority, I didn't wanna wait. Yes, my app data is mostly gone. some apps back stuff up for you OTA is you resister. Anyhow, I will report back if the push bug shows up again. But so far so good.
