IOS4 Upgrade has killed my iPod Touch 32gb

I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64bit and iTunes 9.2.0.61.... I've been running these happily and without issue for some time.

I plugged in my iPod Touch 32gb this evening to update it, and iTunes informed me IOS4 was available, great I thought so I opted to download and install.

iTunes downloaded the software, backed up my iPod and then at the installation phase errored with error 21. At this point I gathered my iPod had been flattened and was back to factory default. I've followed the steps on the help web page such as resetting the device, disabling anti virus etc. but can't get any further.

I can reset the iPod and the screen prompts me to plug it into iTunes. When I do, iTunes goes through the phase of extracting the software, verifying the update with Apple and then when iTunes says it is preparing my ipod for restore the ipod screen flashes as if it's restarting and hangs on the apple logo.

Can anyone help?

PC, Windows 7

Well after a frantic day or two stamping my fists and kicking my heals I have successfully managed to get my iPod Touch back into the world of the living and successfully updated to iOS4.

I followed the majority of the tips in this article ;

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275?locale=en_GB

For some time I got no-where but ultimately I removed iTunes and re-installed it into C:\Program Files (it was previously installed in C:\Program files(x86) - not sure if this was correct as I'm using windows 7 64bit)

I also removed the downloaded software upgrade from the following directory ;

+C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates+

...this forced iTunes to download it again and this time it's worked! It's currently restoring my iPod from a backup.

My faith is restored!

Good luck everyone else with the same issue.
