Lost calendar after update

I synced my iPhone 3GS to ios4 with no troubles, no lost data at all. My mother, however, lost all of her calendar dates. She does not use google calendar or sync her calendar at all with any program on her iMac, just manually puts in dates on her phone. Any reason why she would lose all this data, and any way to get it back?
